Re: Welding Newbie

^Same question as Violane. But i think I've seen quality stones on Yale.

Regarding the hitachi grinder- whoa! 23K RPM! (But i'm sure with ~1" stones, surface speed works out to be comparable to 4" discs on a 10K RPM angle grinder, or 6",8" 1750/3500 rpm bench grinder.) What's the collet size on those and does it run smooth?

I hate grinding. Thick 4" tyrolit on a makita angle grinder, wearing leather gloves and my hand still goes numb. A buzzing sensation that i can still feel minutes after stopping. But 1mm thick cut off discs don't have much mass and they run real smooth ^_^.

@ Ossie
I just found the 7018's on a well-stocked hardware (tagaytay construction.) All I've used are locally made nihonwelds. (No idea how they stack up to other brands but i think i'll patronize it.)

It must be 6mm. I measured the shaft of the original stone attachments it came with and it 's just shy of 6mm.

Die grinder is very very smooth running. Jap made are always the better choice when still available compared to the Chinese ones. The difference in quality and performance is very noticeable.

Max stone attachment diameter to use is 32mm. The stones were branded Mitsui.

@V

I don't know if the chipping hammer are available locally but I got mine from Sears. Amazon has it too.

If I'm going to choose just one I'll choose the Variable Speed Bosch angle grinder. It's the most versatile among the lot.

I didn't realize how important variable speed was in angle grinding till I tried one. It allows a lot of things to be done where one would find it difficult to do using a single speed grinder and top most among this is Full Control. If you notice the Bosch is the one loaded with the grinding disk.

Re: Welding Newbie

i just noticed it by now - by looking back at the pictures 🙂

no other angle grinder brand carries a variable speed like bosch?

mine is also bosch with variable up to 6 speed. i usually set the speed 1 to 3 for slight job. during my welding works i switched it to full speed to clean the welding messes 😀 then setting back the speed to at least speed 1 - 4, i observed that the speed is not the same again which is so slow. is this carbon brush related problem? btw, my grinder is 10 years old now if im not mistaken hehe

Re: Welding Newbie

the variable speed really is the best thing to happen in angle grinders.
and mine bosch has it.
i dont know why others cant (didnt) do the same.
i rarely switched mine to #6 speed...5 will do for grinding welding burrs and cutting tiles/granite and #3 for wood sanding..rarely 1 and 2.

Re: Welding Newbie

tack weld. hack saw blade were put on the 2 sides as spacer. (mahirap na kasi baka hindi ko pa matanggal) 😀

practice to build confidence, not bad for newbie hehe

planning to weld it inside (at the bigger holes) so no welds on the outside part of the metal bar.

Re: Welding Newbie

Downside with using drag electrodes is we don't get much practice in maintaining consistent arc gap. 🙂

Re: Welding Newbie

This is a good kit. I once saw one for sale at sulit.com for 30K including some bonus accessories. According to the owner the machine had only around 8 hrs combined run time. Too bad I missed it because I had other priorities that time.

Re: Welding Newbie

TIG is good as well but a much slower process plus harder to learn.

More expensive hardware too.
