Re: Welding Newbie

been trying out arc welding lately, ang hirap . . . . kailangan pa praktis praktis praktis

lousy ata ung nabili ko na welding rod, wipcord, the rod coating keeps on melting on the tip of the rod, or baka dahil lang talaga sa lack of required skills. . .

makakarating din tayo sa beadwork ni ossie balang araw

Re: Welding Newbie

Rosy

I got my drill press at MyTools along ortigas extension going to taytay. Dai-ichi brand.. well its china. I am pretty darn happy with it. very minimal runout(or almost none, since i use exact diameter dowels , its always a snug fit) 6.5K if i remember correctly. The table needs a fair bit of adjusting everytime you change height. but thats about it.

Try bringing in a material to drill on and drill bit when you check out the johnson elektrik at hanstools or the powercraft at handyman. So you will get a feel, i believe they will let you run it. At least Hanstools will... They let me run their jointer (this is much more hazardouse than a DP)

Gud pm sir beebeenator, thanks for sharing too your thoughts and it is well appreciated. Actually yesterday I was at Handyman again checking out again the POWER CRAFT drill press and some circular wire brush etc.

And on the way home I also passed by MY TOOLS inquiring also about some tools that I usually use here in my farm like gas fed generators, grass cutters and chain saws. Maybe in the future I'll
post a new thread regarding chainsaw users dito sa P H M.
i also have one that I use for milling cocolumber and ipil-ipil plunks.

Any way setting aside that I am more interested in purchasing a drill press and I forgot to ask sir Mark Vincent about the DP but then discovered that they are also selling MIG welders, also in my
wish list. Brand is FUJIMATSU again made in china, the MIG NBC 250 costs 50K and the smaller one KL-MIG-150 costs 15K.

just do'nt know if its quality is much better than the OZITO Mig welder
being sold at Sulit. Anyway one of these days I'll pass by the store and
inquire about their drill press, who knows baka magustuhan ko yun.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.;)

Re: Welding Newbie

*sigh* i sure wish someone in the pinoyhandyman community took the hitachi DP at sulit months back. Imagine a DP that's still made in japan for less than 10K =/.

I got no issues with my DP, wobble free but i believe those taiwanese ones are very serviceable too. And that the DP isn't meant for lathe precision- to center holes, it's recommended to use punch for sheet metal and structurals, and on wood, the bit with the center point.

Anyhoo, having the ability to weld sure is handy =). I wish they taught it on HS or college.

Re: Welding Newbie

I almost took that Hitachi drill press but the Milton is doing fine so I passed. Is Milton Taiwanese?

Thinking of a chip blower plus a foot operated coolant dispersal kit but have not had time to study the options available yet.

OT

Speaking of wood bits then these might be good.

Re: Welding Newbie

Just ordered this Bionic mask :eek:. Metal grinding probably don't need filter mask if one has a face shield. Unlike sawdust which fly airborne metal dust tend to be heavier and stays down. But judging by the shield looks like a mini filter mask can still fit and used.

Re: Welding Newbie

@rolly,
what rod are you using?
did you clean the metal first?
pls post some picture for us to help you in some ways 😀

@rosy,
did FUJIMATSU offer you to try their welder?
there is also RILON welder(mig/tig/arc/plasma) in Caloocan, they claim that its a highend China made welder. i tried their DC Arc Welder 160A when i visited their warehouse last week, the welder is nice, we used 2 sticks of rod non stop welding, since its DC, its really smooth and really quiet, and less spatter. the actual amperage rating is around 12-15amp. we also used their cheapo extension cord, hindi man lang uminit yung cord. the manager said that they can aslo give us discounted price to our group 🙂

you can try and its free 🙂

@jay,
the bioinic mask really looks great, made by Uvex.
but, i still prefer to use filter mask when grinding.

Re: Welding Newbie

@ Ossie

What were you doing in Caloocan testing Rillon / Riland welders ..... hehhehehehe:p

I wanted the shield because I can just raise it up my head and drop it when needed.

Currently I use these when grinding.

I need new gloves. Will check those available locally baka mas mura and good quality naman.

These below are good for metal fabrication.

No. It's needed. If heavy grinding I will use the googles and face shield. One of my friend lost an eye last year. Nagkakabit lang ng alambre na sampayan. Dumaplis and natusok mata niya. Sad but true. He did not go for his googles thinking it's just a small job. 🙁
