Re: Welding Newbie

How about a fan on the heat sink itself instead of adding heat sink material?

As I cannot verify visually the setup , I could only assume. Heat sink fan is a great follow-up after a good exhaust plan. Just make sure that the fan blows into the heat sink and not the other way around.

Re: Welding Newbie

A cooling fan directly at the transformer, with enough vents near the top of the chassis is probably enough. To confirm this, check the inside components once in awhile if you see something melting or burning.

I would avoid vents directly on top of the chassis, there might ba a chance of accidentally exposure to water/liquids.

I'm not sure how a heatsink can be attached to the transformer though.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: Welding Newbie

In order for cooling fins to work:
- You should have a flat surface to maximize point of contact with the heat sink
- Contraption for the heat sink to be soundly attached to the transformer at all times ( loose conductor is very dangerous)
- Add thermal paste for maximum heat transfer
- It would be best if you could place an exhaust fan near the transformer as it heats up the most

Pure exhaust would be fine just as mentioned above.

Yeah.. I was thinking of using silicon heatsink compound to glue the aluminum heatsink fins before screwing it to the transformer..

How about a fan on the heat sink itself instead of adding heat sink material?

I will also place a fan to be focus on the transformer.. I just bought a 220v muffin fan from raon.. Hope this works...

I'll post pics tomorrow..

Re: Welding Newbie

pls observe safety on the modification.

hope the fan you are going to install is rated for high temp enclosure, otherwise it will just melt the plastic and will short the coil/circuit of the fan.

Go go go. Let's take it to the next level.

Kung maganda price post mu muna dito sa For Sale. Excellent beginners welder ang AC. Pang practice talaga kasi medyo mahirap gamitin kesa DC.

Laking mura ng price compared sa DC welder so attractive para sa mga newbie na gusto munang mag try.

Re: Welding Newbie

However if you plan to get the 160A DC welder then I think it's a bit on the weak side. At least 200A so it can do thicker metals.

Sorry for the crappy pics. Rillon Inverter MMA Welders.

The small one is 200A, middle is 250A and big one is 400A.

I was thinking of that. Thats why I bought the metal muffin fan.. Its 6" x^6" made of metal not plastic like those in PC's.

Re: Welding Newbie

Usually they have multi purpose machines that can handle Stick and Tig. It will be more expensive but am not sure of the real benefits yet. In my current point of view if a TIG machine is needed or wanted then must get a "REAL" dedicated Tig machine. Lots of hidden variables in TIG choices depending on the metal kind and thickness one wants to work on.

As in most multifunction tool designs compromises are almost always present to accommodate more features against rising cost factors.

If the Inverter MMA Welding Machine is cheaper then I reckon it will be a better choice. A dedicated DC Stick Welder.
