Re: Welding Newbie

@beedigo,
just called my suking hardware store this morning, i inquired about the rod for "pundidong bakal". they have EUTECTIC brand and cost Php15 per piece. no rod code number like 6013, 6011 etc, just ask them for "pundidong bakal" hth

just want to ask, do you guys have an idea what do they call the welding rod for "pundidong bakal"? 'coz I brought the plate of my drill press to a welding shop after it got cracked, and they guy said he needs a rod for that. But when I got to the hardware store, they dont know what it is. TIA

Re: Welding Newbie

@john,
hey bro, you are really a busy man hehe

you can use lots of clamps and alternate welding from side to side will do the trick 🙂 i dont like to pour water in my work place, its kinda messy 😀

Re: Welding Newbie

@clay,
thanks for the info, but I think the shop doesnt have the acet-oxide. I guess I have to stick with the stick:D

@ossie,
thanks for the trouble of asking your suki, I'll just try to look for other hardware stores that might be selling them.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Welding Newbie

Just an update, just got my drill press plate welded. I finally bought 1 weld stick for the pundidong bakal at one of the several hardware shops here at our place, and he's the only one selling it. And I can't complain on the price (it's 140pesos per stick!:eek:). It's a good thing the welder only needs 1 stick. Thanks again guys.

Re: Welding Newbie

@beedigo,
good to hear that your drill press' plate is now ok... and, its not good to hear that the price of the rod you used is also the same price of 1 box (5 kg) of welding rod 😮

Re: Welding Newbie

Cast iron seems to be a difficult weld. Glad the DP table is now ok.

Here are some Stick Welding Guidelines, Tips and Hints from Miller.

@john-jo

Welded metal movement is really a pain. None the less we're now learning how to tame it or at least contain it.

Auto Darkening Helmet is really a plus investment. It's very difficult to weld well if we don't see the weld puddle clearly. 🙂

Re: Welding Newbie

The bender base needs to be fabricated. I decided not to full weld the handle yet and do all this in one shot.

This is an easy and cheap build but will be very useful for metal works. I hope other members will make one for their shops too.
