Re: Welding Newbie

@jay,
i dont know if its premium but i think it is, based on the looks and on the price of Php80.

i also tried this disc gave by my friend for me to test. it vibrates a lot because of its low rpm specs. i just need to lower my grinder setting to 4 or 5. ill still go for bosch or dewalt disc.

Rasta - Made in Switzerland

B&D Professional- Made in Germany

Re: Welding Newbie

Ok will take out the current Dewalt disk on the grinder and use Tyrolit. Will report back when I accumulate enough grind time on it.

I almost forgot. Anyway I will load up the Tyrolit disk and test it at this mini table upgrade I want to do.

A Welding Positioner. Will try with scrap first so I can get a better idea when I do the final one on the bigger welding table I plan to build this year.

Re: Welding Newbie

@jay,
comparing with the price you posted below with my favorite LMS

flat bar:

1" x 3mm x 20' = Php130

1.5" x 3mm x 20' = Php254

2" x 3mm x 20' = Php352

Ossie,

Here are the metal prices from Compact Steel.

Angle Bars

1" x 1" x 2.5mm x 6m = 295

1.5" x 1.5" x 2.5mm x 6m = 465

Flat Bars

1" x 2.5mm x 6m = 180

1.5" x 2.5mm x 6m = 330

Cylindrical Tool Steel ( 2" long )

Diameter ( inches ) = Price
1.0 = 15 pesos
1.5 = 40
2.0 = 66
2.5 = 116
3.0 = 217
3.5 = 258
4.0 = 375

Re: Welding Newbie

@jonathan,

i have a 300A arc welder i got two years ago with the intention of doing some metal works but got this health problem and didnt pursue.but i have a long list of metal working projects though God only knows when i can do them.

its just that Wipweld's welder are way above my budget.

but there are a lot more tools i need before i ever start working on welding..machinist vise, AD helmet, chopsaw (graduate nako sa hacksaw!) to name a few...

and of course i needed maybe an operation for me to work with ease...di ako ubra tumalungko ng matagal...maiipit si liver eh..hehe

but scared thinking about the procedure which will involve general anesthesia, possibly blood transfusion coz its going to be very bloody, a wide zigzag incision in my tummy, and finally post operative pain in both my body and pocket...har har har

it could perhaps cost me between 500k to 1M. mahal kasi sa medical city..dun nag oopera si surgeon ko...huhuhu..will see her last week of march then perhaps schedule everything.

that money could buy a lot of tools di bah?
:p

Yes V. I've been there already but during that time I was no so well versed with welding machine yet. Might drop by again when I'm in Cartimar.

oo nga docV, i've just back-read a portion of this welding newbie thread, napaka haba na pala ng thread ng welding newbie,( and still going ;))hangang page 9 nga lang ako...
it's only then i realized na nagwewelding ka na pala...
el presedente and idol ossie, and not to mention the grandmaster, seems doing very good job on giving those welding afficionados, a very inspiring and encouraging hints about metal-working.
parang gusto na rin tuloy magwelding...:eek:
matagal pa siguro, he he he, with this long list of woodworking projects baka matagalan pa, and mahirap na, baka ma-addict, ma-divert pa attention sa metal, ( look at grandmaster CN ) ha haha...
maganda siguro pasundot-sundot muna ng tanong sa mga pros and experts 😉

about your condition, dont you worry docV, ma-aalpasan mo rin yan.
and hope you get well and never recommend that surgical blade to make incision on your tummy...
e di maraming tools ka na mabibili, di bah ? :p

get well bro, chicharon ? ha ha ha !

Re: Welding Newbie

@idol Doc V,
waahhh tuloy din pala yung operation mo. hope it goes well and mawala na totally yung pain na nararamdaman mo. isama mo na din yung balot - take out pa hahaha yummy.

yung extension gate ni CN, na stop saglit, na over fatigue. nasobrahan daw sya sa trabaho, mukhang na enjoy yung pagwewelding e hehehe

@jon,
you can use metal as your frame tapos yung iba wood na din 🙂 combination di ba?

@jay,
punta tayo minsan sa wipweld kung gusto mo pag naligaw ako dyan ulit, kaso inoperahan ko kahapon yung makina ng tormots ko e hehe bka next week oks na kabayo ko hehe

Re: Welding Newbie

This is the best rod I have used so far. Nihon stainless steel rod @ 15 pesos each. Arc is so smooth.

I could have made the weld look good by filling it up. However I did not want to waste the stainless steel rod because I purchased only 2 pcs . None the less aesthetics is not important for this WIP potion.
