Re: Welding Newbie

Hmmm...never thought of that. Would that be a fool proof procedure or is there a chance that the thing might get broken and become loose?

Sorry to paranoid to have a broken gate and no welding supply nearby

Some times the Barrel bolt lock could just be mis-aligned due to frequent use.. but some times, like in my situation before.. one of the gates door is actually mis-aligned. I used a floor jack to gently lift the gates door back to its original alignment..

Perhaps, it could be the door that's mis-aligned..

Re: Welding Newbie

A MOSFET or IGBT Type DC welder will be the choice tool to service that gate if all goes South using brute method. Lightweight and can be plugged into household outlets. 🙂

Re: Welding Newbie

i bought today a kilo of special nihonweld 6013 for 150p..never mind if its cheap or epxensive. i just wanted to try it...eyeballed, the diameter of the rod is about 3/32.

id like to know the properties of this special nihon...i hope the masters can chime in and enlighten me..i plan to weld a few angle bars, perhaps 3/16" thick. i dont know if this will suffice.

thanks..

btw..i was looking for the "consumables thread"...but lost my patience and posted my query here..sorry.

Re: Welding Newbie

Hey doc V, you need a welding table, I can design one for you free to fit your specifications and needs. You be the one na lang to assemble it and it will be great for you to practice welding while putting it up.

In other words its gonna be your first project and yet will be very useful to you in your succeeding projects.

Maybe a 24" X 24", or a 24" X 36" table top will suit your needs for the moment for practice welding and probably with an overall height of 34" or 36" so you will not be bending while welding, which gives you terrible back aches/pains/lumbago.

doc V, you may also check the thread by JayL re: EDUCATIONAL LINKS on welding, I have posted there some reading informations on proper stick welding and understanding your welders.

Huh two years + ago I was in ICU for a supposedly heart attack. There I was with all the bells and whistles hooked up but thinking about an incoming shipment of tools to arrive the next day.

But I'm still alive. Worrying would have done me no good. 🙂

Way to go Doc V. Keep on welding.
