Re: Welding Newbie

one thing I'd like to share with the other newbies...
Never chip off the flux while it's hot if there's no immediate need to.
I chipped the thing off and didn't realize the hot bits went though my socks!
also reminder to all to wear long sleeved shirts and cotton as the hot chips
will go through polyester fiber like a hot knife through butter!

medyo lito lang as to what amperage to use...
again invest in an ADH! galing talaga!

Re: Welding Newbie

Practice welding on Stainless Steel Tube 304 using Rilon TIG200s

Using 1.6mm (1/16") Tungsten Electrode, Tack Weld.

Some scrap stainless steel tube for practice.

After welding

I think I need to make the tack weld closed to each other to cover the crater hole.

I don't have 308 filler rod. No way to fixed the hole.

Re: Welding Newbie

nice practice sir!!!

i think you need to adjust the settings little by little to come up with your desired weld because i'm seeing crater on it. and remove the filler right away. ang galing.

Re: Welding Newbie

Hi good day to all,
Would just like to ask.. saan po ba pwedeng magaral or matuto mag welding? I can only think of TESDA and MFI. is there any alternatives? Gusto ko sana matuto ng tama and not thru experimenting. very basic lang ang alam ko when it comes to welding. actually smaw/stick welding pa lang ang na-try ko during our machine shop class back in college.

can you guys recommend a good ebook or forum to read?thanks!

Yes bro kevlar do enjoy the forum and the whole site as well !!!

Since you are new here, can you introduce yourself to the community, if you will scroll down the index page, just under the GAZEBO Forum is the MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS, you can post your intro here.

How about some not too personal info of yourself, hobbies or interest that keeps you busy on your free/spare time. Are you a DIYing nuts like most of us here or perhaps a professional contractor or architect.

Thanks bro !!! :thanks: :lalala:

Re: Welding Newbie

Hey Thanks Rosy for the welcome.

I'll visit the site in a while for the intro. For this section... yeah, enjoying do some stuff at home (basic electrica wiring, a little carpentry, a little masonry, plumbing, etc.) but im very much interested is metal working. Got a welding machine at AC* hardware a couple years back which is bigger than what i read here from (yamato dc machine) and its almost new 🙁

i find it a hard do the welding stuff but seems so easy observing ...hopefully, forum will provide some guidance pointing me to the right direction..

cheers and more power!

Well bro kevlar, some members here too have the bigger or bulkier Yamato as I have one too, an AC 300 AMPS weld machine. The one you are seeing here now used by other members are the portable one, the YAMATO 200 amps DC Inverter. This brand has joined the band wagon of IGBT inverter welders that are getting to be very popular world wide.

Bro just go over the different threads regarding stick welding and for sure you will get lots of tips and guidance to keep you on the right track. Just throw us your question and we'll try to provide you with the proper answers.

Enjoy the forums and good luck !!! 😉 :jazzysax: 😀

Thanks Rosy, I will include the portable Yamato on my xmas list... Been drooling it when I saw it in the forum but I need to sell the bigger one and of course learn the basics. :p

I'm not that worried anymore to use it again since I have fellow handyman to ask and get advice.

Have a good one!

Re: Welding Newbie

Hey bro kevlar,

Don't sell yet your weld machine, try practicing with it on some scrap metals and learn first the basics of stick welding on week ends perhaps. You still have 8 months to practice, from May to Dec. before getting the portable Yamato, if that is what you prefer. hehehe, LOL 😀

Practice, practice and more practice lang and show us your progress. Don't be scared to show the weld beads you have made, whether ugly, not so good or good enough, let's help each other and guide you to the correct way and direction. Bro most of us here if not all went through the same route, producing awful weld beads and punching holes on metals but as time would pass and do some research too in the net and then do lots of practice, nakuha rin, yun natutu na.
Don't be shy or be scared, show up and post your first try and the succeeding ones, we will be here to assist or support your learning process. 😎

OH I would just like to reiterate bro that I am not a professional welder nor attended a welding school, I just had this great passion for this kind of skill and have manage to learn its basics and still trying to learn more.

So GOOD LUCK again bro kevlar on your journey with stick welding !!!

CHEERS and stay safe during practice ! 😉 :bouncealt:

Hahaha... Thanks Rosy for the tips.. More on the scared side pa.. But I'm sure I'll gain some confidence once I practice and learn the craft..

Quick question. I read there are several welding sticks available but how come the usual hardware sa suking kanto sells one type only?

Thanks again... 8. Months to go :p

Re: Welding Newbie

Bro, yes there are several type of welding electrodes that can be purchased locally, usually sa big industrial shops or hardware stores but there are also hardware stores, usually the smaller ones that sells only one or two types of welding rods and these are the general type of welding electrodes like the E6013, 1/8" or the 3/32" diameter or the E7018s rods. Mga ito kasi ang mabili sa kanila. Also some carry stainless steel welding electrodes like the NSS-308, 1/8" or 3/32" diameter as well. 😎

Now if you will start your welding practice, better start with the ordinary/general use welding rod, the E6013, 1/8" rods. This are always available in neigborhood hardware stores at mas mura pa rin. Learn and find out the different ampere settings used for this type of rod in different weld applications. Stick to it first para hindi ka muna malito sa usage ng ibang welding electrodes. 😉 :hammer:
