Re: Welding Newbie

Any suggestions how to do the folding legs or just get the saw horse there when needed.

Thanks

Re: Welding Newbie

is there going to be a great deal of pounding on it? i was thinking you can attach a chain on the sides that anchor to the wall... but good for light duty work only. I did that for a foldable "clothes line" in the maid's area. Using discarded crib side rails (galing sa lumang crib that fails every revised safety standards )

Sayang kasi pag sawhorse. I always seem to run out of saw horse (only made 2 kasi) so when i was making the jimmy jig i used LPG barrels as my addtional saw horse 🙂

Re: Welding Newbie

No pounding on this table. Just for fabrication alignments, the usual automotive repair stuff, and woodwork now and then.

Re: Welding Newbie

My old Swiss made Bosch drill sounded funny today after 15 years of hard dedicated masonry work. Opened it up and after cleaning and a bit of high temp grease sounded good and ready to go again.

Re: Welding Newbie

I'm surprised to find 20-30 years NOS in Binondo. This time on the small side street stores. Even the US market and ebay are already dry of this US made tool model by Crescent.

Re: Welding Newbie

i noticed that your welding machine is power craft
that china production welding machine is one of the best if not the best (compared to other china production of course, not brands for extreme environment like wheeler etc)

i've seen most china welding machine with really tiny core but this one has a big core.

worst unit i've seen (not mentioning the brand) claims to have 400A rating but its core is as small as that of a 200A

anyway my tip for buying welding machines is that CHECK its core size then its wiring

and also your welding JayL is quite good (it doesn't look like a work of a newbie

Re: Welding Newbie

Thanks for the kind words bro. Will try hard to make my welding better with more practice.

Yeah what you say about this Powercraft welder is true. I opened it before to view the inside and the core is big enough. The machine itself is quite heavy at 27 kg.

It uses aluminum wires that's why maybe the price is lower.

Re: Welding Newbie

I don't feel secured using the 8" bench grinder on it's stand. I can't fully eliminate the vibration probably because I'm using a cheaper wire wheel brush which is not well balanced. Sometimes the stand walks specially when doing long or heavy parts.

I decided to add a wall support bracket to the stand since i have some scrap metal lying around.

Now the setup is much safer.

Anybody knows where I can get a better quality 8" Wire Wheel brush? The one I have now is stamped Germany but I doubt if it's original. Price was I think 200 pesos.

Re: Welding Newbie

mig is easy to learn and a 90 amp ozito mig welder is an economical choice for your welding needs. I got mine for 5k too! i use 0.8 mm flux cored wire. I modded my welder to improve its performance like converting it to DC, adding CAPS, independent supply for the wire feeder, and installing inductors. Right now i'm converting it to work with gas so i can make use of the cheaper mild steel wire. btw the gun is already equipped with a gas valve which is a plus for the ozito brand. 1 reel of 0.9 flux core is around P1500-2000 and 0.8 mild steel around 700-1200/reel.
