Re: Welding noob question

OK, the 3/32" rods you are using is fairly good enough for your material being welded but there are still some sort of technique needed to learn to have a successful weld beads. Its really difficult to do a ran or continuous weld bead on thin walled square tubings due to burn throughs and surface warping.

So what is usually done is you just apply one bead at a time, letting it cool for a while, chip of the slag then apply again the next bead, then so on and so forth until you finish the metal joint. Another option is ran or apply a short stitch weld bead, about 1/2" to 1" on one part and then apply the other one on the opposite end. Purpose of this is that as you apply the other weld bead ran, your first applied weld beads on the first end would cool down a little reducing heat on the metal surface. Then on the other side of the square tubing joint, you start again on one end of the joint, leave it and start again anew on the opposite end letting each weld application cools down.

Usually for 3/32" rods, required ampere setting are from 60 to 95 amps only so I guess you will have to do some or lots of practice with these ampere settings on some scraps to find out what would fit you best.

Huwag mong ibabad yung rod sa metal, pag pulang pula na ang metal surface, immediately withdraw and let the surface cool for a few seconds before resuming to apply another weld bead.

Hope this helps bro !!! 😉

Re: Welding noob question

Thanks sirs, need more practice . . . First time to do metal that thin. Still cant make the 3/32 work for me, so i used thinner rods for stainless steel. Had some success compared to 3/32. Practice pa

Re: Welding noob question

Yes bro rolly, stick welding needs a lot of practice to be able to successfully lay some good looking or we may call decent weld beads/puddles plus knowing various techniques for thin and thick walled materials.

With regards to what you said using thinner rods of stainless, do you mean you are using the 1/16" rods ?

Well I just hope you don't get discourage when practicing with the 3/32" or 1/16" welding electrodes.

CHEERS and GOOD LUCK, also stay safe during your welding sessions !!! 😉 :work:

Re: Welding noob question

Re: Welding noob question

Thanks sir. Im a bit comfortable welding with thicker metals. Nagulat ako when i got that 1.5mm tube.

Wala b available 1/16" rods sa hardware?

Re: Welding noob question

Yessir. . . 2mm steel tubes are more than double the price of 1.5mm ones. Here im testing kung kakayanin ung tanks. Ok naman
