Re: Welding Table

I'll use cheaper single stage clear coat for the table. I'm painting it only for rust protection more than anything else so no need to spend on expensive finishes. I'm sure this table will not stay good looking for long once it goes into service.

I also use this type of filter for clear coats ...

It goes inside the cup before it screws to the spray gun ....

These aluminum bars are also good for mixing paint .... you can buy some and cut these to pieces. I do have a couple with different lengths depending on the can size to stir.

Re: Welding Table

Sometimes I buy different air hose materials just to try which one is better. I have rubber ( which is heavy ) , poly something , synthetic something , fiber reinforced etc....

However for best bang for the buck I found this cheaper type of hose to be good. I've been using this one for a couple years now and is still working well. Not the best but for the money paid it's a good buy. Very cheap per meter at Best Achievers in T. Alonzo.

Two passes of primer coat and it's done. The wheels are now back too.

I don't have lock washers so I'll use thread locker for the drawer handle screws. Just to make sure these stay put during use and does not loosen up.

Re: Welding Table

Here it is now. The top of the frame was not painted to make sure of full ground contact when the table top is installed. I will weld the top and later do a paint touch up on the sides only.

Sideline muna ang table sa woodworking .... LOL

I remember asking you about this filter types before when I ordered mine, you said they were not needed and were just extra items paint gun suppliers tell you that you need. That is why I'm surprise you use it...
I use these filters all the time on everything I spray :trumpet:

I have only this piece to try that came with the new spray gun. I use it only for clear coat.

I remember our conversation about this filter. Sorry for any confusion Timb but you might have heard me wrong. It is very unlikely of me to give such a hard opinion on a tool specially if I don't have it or have not at least tried it yet.

However my opinion now after trying is that I can get away without it since I filter prior to pouring into the cup. None the less added filtration won't hurt specially if these cost cheap.

Re: Welding Table

Today I will weld the table top. The strategy is to make small runs of tack welds to minimize additional distortion.

Anyway I don't think full welds are necessary ... I will remove the side clamps and start at the center so distortion can flow through the sides ..... will also shim if needed.

Re: Welding Table

I started with the center to take care of the bow ....

short run welds ... minimum heat range that I can get away with and still get reasonable penetration

mahirap din out of position overhead welding ... twice pa ko napaso LOL

Re: Welding Table

I moved to the sides

I wanted to tie the corners but the plate edges did bow ... weld relief grinding using a slicer wheel and it went back up

Finally finished all welding .. reasonably flat for fabrication purposes

Re: Welding Table

wire wheeled the table top ... ang dami na agad tama from using it to build the table frame ...

wiped it with WD40 ... tomorrow I'll paint the undersides and call it a day

If I wanted to I can still dismantle the table top in the future although it will not be a walk in the park. I did not weld where I can't fit in an air cut off tool.

Thanks bro ... looking forward for your table build now. Distortion and warping are the challenges.

Re: Welding Table

Nice work Jay, very clean and smooth, you should see my table, its always rusting on top, don't know how to keep the rust off, usually i clean my table top once a year, after a few months, it starts rusting again, tried wiping on wd 40, light oil, turco, eventually a spot would start to rust, probably from the heat generated by weldding. i don't know how they manage to keep their table surfaces clean n shiny like the ones i see on tv, maybe they have someone always cleaning the table hehehe...
