now on to tapping ....

Tomorrow I'll find some automotive suspension bolts ... the ones where the washer, lock washer and bolt is integrated already.

Re: Welding Table

@ Jonathan ... yes bro handang handa na. You will be surprised to see the smile on the faces of the auto boys who come to work on their cars here in my garage. They know it will also make things easier for them too as they can pull the table near the car. A lot better than the cart they currently use.

This vise will be needed for pipe working ... I'm not sure if I want to drill and tap holes for mounting this side of the table. Weld spatter can wreck the threads.

Looking for mounting suggestions. Any ideas?

Re: Welding Table

mine i made a base shaped like a T, bolt it to the top part and just put it on a vice when you want to use it, since i don't use it often, so its just a temporary mount that can be stored easily....hth

If an exhaust fabricator don't use a pipe vise that often then I'm sure I'll be using it even less. I think I'll bolt the pipe vise to a 1/4" plate then just c clamp to the table when needed. I don't want to fab a separate base for it but would also want it ready when I need it. To me the best option is to be able to use the welding table for mounting it. 🙂

Not really a wise idea welding it on the table, will just give restrictions to the table usage, 😮 may I suggest you attach it to a separate plate where you can just put it on top of the table and secure the plate with vise grips when needed. :p 😉

Re: Welding Table

Ok I found this 1/4" plate lying around ....

Will Weld the bolts to the plate, Bolt the vise then mount it on the table using VGs.... 🙂

Re: Welding Table

Welding bolts to the 1/4" plate

Messy table ... needs to organize power distribution

Vise is bolted

Clamped to the table ... back side

Re: Welding Table

Pipe cutting

I lost some cut clearance because of the plate overhang.

I can setup the oxy ace and cut the overhang. It will make the plate flush to the table edge and it's footprint smaller also.

I'll think it over first. Maybe it's not such a big deal to run after that lost clearance. The pro side is that the overhang adds front clamping versatility.

What do you think? Cut or no Cut? I don't work much on pipes and can't identify if such clearance is really that important.

Re: Welding Table

can't you find a way to mount this in the same holes where your vise mounts? I presume you can drill the plate so it matches that of the vise....

It's a good idea and have also considered it. However in the end I wanted the vise to back face the long side of the table so I can use additional support longer pipes.

Today I decided to regain the lost clearance by cutting the plate overhang.

much better now ... i think this is the more preferred way ... edge mounted
