Re: Welding Table

Very slow progress .... should I paint the table blue too?

Here is how I cut my stocks as I've seen fabricators in Welding Web do it.

First I cut all my pieces to the length required.

Then I miter these one by one ...

Miller Spoolmate 100 Spool Gun
Victor Firepower 350 Oxy Ace Outfit
3M Speedglas 9002X AD Helmet
Makita LC1230 Dry Cut Saw

useful din pala itong flashlight ng Metabo ... the Triton Router lights upgrade by Jarod is good :cool01: ... I'll have to look at it again later ...

by the way these 14 gauge sheet ( 1 1/2" and 1 1/4" ) are the ones I cut from the CS testing

Re: Welding Table

Top frame is 1" x 2" x 2 mm ( 44" x 24" )

Lower base is 2" x 2" x 2 mm ( 44" x 24" )

I'm contemplating to pull back one tube a bit inside. The idea is to have a table foot well. It will be very convenient when using the welding table for Tig specially when using a foot control.

my mid table clamping strategy ... for now unless I find other better reasonably priced options ..

Re: Welding Table

I chose Panda to supply the casters. Edward gives good support so I can always go back if I have a problem such as exchange / returns or something like that in case there is a change in design plan.

Globe Brand low profile polyurethane / cast iron ... 5" casters w/ brake. 350 Kg capacity each @ 730 pesos per piece

Re: Welding Table

I decided to go ahead with the original plan to install 4 swivel casters with brakes. For better maneuverability in tight corners.

full ball bearing design with grease fitting

Re: Welding Table

wont the polyurethane tires deteriorate in time? parang mas maneuverable yung rubber tires than plastics..yes those casters can swivel fine but i dont think they can roll better than the rubber counterparts..prove me wrong on this brader..especially on flooring like yours (washed-out flooring nga ba yang garage mo iirc?)

they are big and yes expensive..but hey, they carry all the weight of your table much like a car that is dependent on all tires.

malambot lang ba i-lock yung mechanisms? its difficult for smaller casters with those kind of locking mechanism..walang enough clearance for the locking hand.

i-weld mo na yan brader!!!

Re: Welding Table

@V

I did'nt even give a thought about rubber or polyurethane. I chose yun mas pogi na caster LOL :). Anyway I'll give it a thought now brother. I can always exchange these and Edward for sure will accommodate provided I don't use the casters.

Here are the Prices for 5" Casters

Polyurethane - 350 Kg capacity each

Swivel w/ brake - 730
Swivel w/o brake - 640
Fixed - 590

Rubber - 280 kg capacity each

Swivel w/ brake - 560
Swivel w/o brake - 470
Fixed - 440

Full cast iron casters are also available but am worried these will crack my tiles but I could be wrong.

360 Kg capacity

Swivel w/ brake - 790
Swivel w/o brake - 700
Fixed - 640

Yes my garage is wash out flooring and wood shop where welding table will park is tiles.

The casters will be bolted to the welding table base via 1/4" plates with tapped holes. All will be swivel with brakes. Probably a mod to lock the swivel movement or auxiliary leveling feet for the welding table itself. I was thinking that if I can always level the welding table then I can make use of the Y- axis reference more efficiently.

Note : Am happy with the locking mechanism. I'm sure these will even get better with use or some good grease after final install. Anyway I plan to degrease the casters and then reload with Super Lube Synthetic Grease prior to installation ( as these are equipped with grease fittings) .

IF you want the full Panda casters' price list then you can PM me your email address.

Nice wheel casters Jay, I do believe these casters can carry the total weight of your welding table since one panel lang ang kukunin mo. My only apprehension with these kind of casters it might not last on rough floor finish because this is what two sales reps have told me, they are good only on tiled floors or wood/parquet floorings. Yan din sana kukunin ko , only the larger ones , 8" or 10" yata wheel diameter but decided to get the all steel wheel casters and another set of the rubber wheel casters since the flooring of my garage is not yet cemented, only 1" gravel ( G1 ) were spread over the entire surface. 🙁

Anyway going back to your choice of casters, it will not last for my use since my table will really be heavy and according to the two sales reps who gave identical comments, the polyurethane red outer covering will start to crack in the long run and then will start to crumble due to the excessive weight of the welding table. I'm not being negative here bro, that's only in my case, maybe for your table them caster wheels will work just fine unless you decide to have it replaced. Well the scenario of cracking and crumbling is just something to think about or give some attention. 😀

Re: Welding Table

Bros,

Can you please help check this guide. I believe the casters I got are polyurethane on cast iron.

http://www.cisco-eagle.com/catalog/c-3103-caster-wheel-selection-guide.aspx

Any comments?

Floor application - pebble wash out and tiles

Rubber naman if under heavy load kumakalas sa rim ... probably depending on brand too.

If not for the tiles I would have chosen all metal sana.

Pneumatic I did not find any.

Thanks

Re: Welding Table

You guys are right about the polyurethane resiliency. I was thinking if it last me at least 5 years then it would be good ( around 48 pesos cost per month ) . More is definitely better.

However I look at the poly and it's not that thick ( low profile style as in mag wheels w/ larger rims ). If I remove it then it will be bare metal.

M7 in Evangelista st does vehicle bushings and rubber mods using very big used dump truck tires. I know they can replace the poly with this hard rubber .... worst comes to worst.

Bros if you chance upon floor or swivel locks please let me know.

Re: Welding Table

I already decided to put a foot well on the table. It will reduce under the table storage but will make the table ready for sitting position Tig welding. Tig foot control is also a reason why i made changes.

Initially I wanted a shallow foot well in order to minimize under table storage loss.

In the end I went for a deeper foot well. I can't imagine myself building another table for Tig so compromises have to be made.

here is the top frame where the table top will sit ....

now I need to cut legs and other frame supports ... when all is done I will start welding
