saw the pics of the build and you gave me an idea how to widen the plate with good aesthetic results for the caster installation.

ayos talaga "sparkless" metal cutter mo bro! bakit wala counterpart ang Bosch sa Makita na yan!

Yes walang Bosch yata. I chose between Milwaukee, Evolution and Makita. In the end the voltage dictated the final decision.

Square tubes are great to work with. Parang Lego pag putol putol na.

Planning to slice this metal plate to make caster mountings.

It's 1/4 inch thick and I plan to tap holes using fine thread metric.

I somehow feel 1/4" is a bit on the skinny side. What do you guys think?

5/16" or 3/8" ? I don't want to overkill the caster install. Do you think tapped 1/4" thick holes will hold up to at least 300 kg load.

overkill? no such thing... go for 1/2" iba holding power ng mas malaki :mobile1:

Bro Jay, I think the 1/4" thick will hold B U T !!! I'd rather choose a thicker metal plate for peace of mind, the 3/8" will be perfect since the table will not really be that heavy yet its still your pick if you decide on a 1/2" thick plate, much better if you are gonna tap holes on them, mas maraming fine threads for the bolt to hold on 😉 compared to the 3/8" or 1/4" skinny plate. 😮

No overkill in the caster install Jay, remember its an important part carrying the full weights of the table.

My metal plates or shoe plates are 1/2" thick Jay, but still contemplating and looking for a thicker plates for the casters, maybe 3/4" inch thick or 1" thick, if I could only find a source. Actually I have already the 1/2" thick metal plates, cleaned and de-rusted, just waiting for me to start drilling holes for the casters and to start welding.

For now I think I will settle with 3/8" ... will check the source when I go get the table top.

The table top was delivered today ...

It's thick and heavy 1/2" plate 28" x 48". Three sides factory edges. However there is a problem. There is a bow on the other side of the 48" length.

I was there to choose the plate. All is well when we started. The bow came in after the lpg cut of the whole plate.

It's a bit more than I had expected. 3/16" on the highest spot on one edge.

It's not a perfect world so I have to deal with this. The shop is equipped to handle ( oxy ace torch ) the bow but skills is lacking. I need to do research before I work it out.

Worst comes to worst I have more than half the other side of the table top flat.

Your inputs will be highly appreciated. None the less I will also try take this issue to weldingweb.com.

( The easiest solution is to cut it in half .... but not yet an option now for me )

The caster plates 3/8" thick 4" x 4.5"

Additional support metal stocks for whatever need will arise during the build.

Looks like the bow is not that serious after more closer inspection.

I can straighten the plate by clamping it to 2 x 2 x 2mm square tubing.

Concave side up ...

1" x 2" x 2mm does not cut it.

Looks like I will have to revert back to the original plan of using 2" x 2" x 2mm for for top frame.

Nawala na bow. Negligible na ito .203mm. Will make a temporary frame for it using 2" x 2" x 2mm square tubes so I can use it already. Hmmm I need a longer straight edge .

Except for those with blanchard ground table tops ( very very tight tolerance ) I don't think table tops can be perfectly flat too. Most however gun their builds to as flat as they can possibly get. Here's an example of a blanchard ground welding table plate ....
