Re: Welding Table

Carbide burr is a lot faster than using files.

Notice the metal chips. These are very small and extremely sharp and thus dangerous specially to the eyes. Make sure to be fully protected when using the burrs. If it contacts the skin then don't wipe off .... blow "away" with compressed air. If it embeds on the skin then use a sharp cuticle nipper to get off. Please don't ask me how I know. LOL

These markers are very good ....

All bolts dry fitted now ...

Now I need transfer punches to drill the base frame and I don't have these 🙁

Re: Welding Table

Ikaw pa OZ. Katabi mo na lahat. Patience ... konti na lang yan.

No transfer punches. Tantyahan na lang muna.

These B&D bits are good for making pilot holes. Just press hard when starting the hole and ease up when it starts to cut. No bit walking.

2mm na lang .... tuloy na natin yung tapping

dry fit ... the bolts will help when I weld the 3/8 plates to the square tube frame

Re: Welding Table

I had a problem with this hole ... the drill bit did bind .... weld joints are very hard

finished it off quickly with a flame profile carbide burr

The table is of simple design but I just want it to be functional for my needs ....

The casters install was a bit more labor intensive than just welding it directly but the current setup will give me the option to shim easily if needed. It will also allow me to replace with 2 non movable casters if I find that 4 swiveling casters are harder to directionally control

I leave the base as it is for now and start to build the top frame first

Re: Welding Table

Not much done today but I did get chance to clean and prepare stocks for the top frame build ...

Wire brushed the table top too

dust wiped off with wd-40 on a cloth

Re: Welding Table

Today's tool casualty ....... KYK C Clamp

Most American welding table builds use receiver tubes to mount bench vises on the table top. For my build I prefer drilling and tapping the table top so I can bolt in the vises.

Receiver tube mounting design .... ( pic borrowed from weldingweb.com )

Twin 4" vises that can be mounted on any corner

Pipe vise ... can be mounted on either center edge left or right ....

Re: Welding Table

I welded the top frame ......

added a middle support ...

it will be positioned exactly like this but under the table top

I need to cut the legs next .... table height set at 32" high. To me that's knuckles height when standing up.

Re: Welding Table

The welding helmet I am using is light assisted but still it is good to have a bright light on the welding area. I will build some welding light stands and install ( halogen? anything better ) bulbs.

For now this will do ... It is important to exactly see where the arc is going to go ... and not the arc only.

I decided not to full weld ... sometimes this configuration will be more effective ... all corners 1" run ..... I can always add more welds if I find it necessary.

Re: Welding Table

@ JayL,

The welds of 1" per corner will be just fine and will hold the two metals together though I see you have grinded/chamfered the edges of the thicker metal for probably future full weld application but I think what you did will be enough already. :p

If you are using a TIG WELDER, a full weld will for sure be very nice to look at specially with the weld manipulations, more professional in appearance. 😉 😎

Hey bro, I thought you are using already the magnetic grounding clamp ? Again, nice build welding table bro, well planned project. 🙂

V when you go for a MIG welder don't look back. Get a Miller. Very easy to use in the hands of DIYers like us.

With regards to the pic for sure tsamba yun LOL.

I thought so too bro. Besides I was surprised how strong the tap to the 2mm thick square tube was. It adds to the plate strength.

I do use the magnetic ground clamp as well as the Tweco conventional one. The quick connect allows me to choose easily which ground clamp to use. None the less if I can only have one I will choose the magnetic design. So very convenient to use.
