Re: Welding Table

V it's only now that I'm getting some experience on the different shapes, thickness, strength, properties and prices of metal stocks available. Angle bars, flat bars, square tubes, plates etc... Hopefully next time I can define and draw my projects well rather than what I do now ... just sketch then build as as I go without a real definite plan.

I always wanted to build a Smoker but have not raised the courage yet to cut a propane tank to be used for it. I read a lot about it and have the tools to do so but somehow I still chicken out in the end ... LOL . If I build it then most probably I'll take the tank cutting to a real pro. Hehehhehehe

Thanks for visiting my build.

Re: Welding Table

Legs install

parang hirap na hirap akong mag kabit pa ... si Master Ryobi easy easy lang. If you see the table he posted on the first pics of this thread you will find ideas in it that were incorporated in this frame build.

Oz I decided to beef up the welds for more stability and try weaving .... hehehheh hindi pa pantay panty ... need pratcice pa LOL

double pass welds

Konti na lang ... malapit na akong magka welding table

I think I will paint the frame first once it's done ... then install the top.

Re: Welding Table

@ JayL,

Wow bro na install mo na pala mga legs ng table, I was supposed sana to suggest yesterday but it slipped my mind, for you to do a little practice or test on weld manipulation or weaving by using your stick welder, why the stick welder ? coz its much cheaper to use rather than using the Mig welder/consumables, purpose of the practice is to get the feel of the hand/wrist movement, the smooth flow and travel of the stick rod or the mig torch. This entered my mind while I was doing full welds on my Wip plates yesterday. :p

Sayang bro, ngayon ko lang naalala, no offense bro but I think your speed travel is a little bit fast kaya medyo malalayo ang mga weaves mo, you can try to slower it a bit to see the difference in the weld paddles, or you can try the push and pull techniques, ay ang ganda ng finish, parang Tig weld finish !!!! 🙂 😉

Re: Welding Table

Bro Rosy ... mas maganda yata i weave ang stick. Pag mig minsan nakaharang yung nozzle d ko makita mabuti. Anyway bro practice ko hand movements and travel speed pa.Walang consistency pa weave ko ... minsan napapabilis ako.

Re: Welding Table

Grind din sigurado mga welds .... iba pag nadaanan ng flap disk ... makinis na pantay pantay pa. LOL

Pero minsan I question these thick welds.... most stuff I read point that the welds should be as thick as the metals being welded with reference to the thinner one. The tubes I use are only 2mm.

Gussets are what will make the legs sturdier.

Re: Welding Table

jay brader,

from here the polyurethane wheels looked scratched already..i wonder if the scratches will go deeper once the top is installed.

are all the wheels turning pushing the cart?

i guess i will have to vote..yours is the mother of all WIPs!

Re: Welding Table

@V

That's for your vote of confidence. I should have been doing this when I was younger. Grabe bro sa buhat buhat but I guess it helps exercise the heart. Somehow I feel better now a days.

I went to check the casters. I assume all will be flat on the slightly uneven garage flooring when the table is fully loaded. I'm thinking to beef up the frame some more to add more weight. A welding table is best when it's heavy. I also need to find a way to lock caster rotation. At the very least I guess wrapping a chain around the wheel will do the trick.

Here I shot some caster closeup pics. I did wipe some of the dirt.

The poly is not that thick but it's hard. Somehow it also has a soft feel to it that I don't fully understand.

Re: Welding Table

Legs install

I think I will paint the frame first once it's done ... then install the top.

Bro Jay,

You can strengthen the four legs so that when the top plate is installed, it will not give pressure to the welds of legs and the base frame, here is my idea and it might work for you too.

For starters, you can add and weld tubings horizontally on the leftside, back side and the right side, weld it to the posts/legs, maybe in the middle part underneath, then under these welded tubings, ( your choice of size, maybe 2" X 2" or 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" tubulars ), you can weld again tubings diagonally from the center/middle of the base frame going up to the underneath corner of the horizontal welded tubulars. I will appear like you have large letter Vs on the sides and backside. The Vs or diagonal tubings will prevent the possible movement or sway of the posts, front and back and also sideways, para bang contrahan silang apat na poste. :p

Now going back to the three horizontally welded tubulars, you may use it to install another shelf underneath the table aside from the shelf possibly on the base frame, you will just add or weld another tubular across to hold the sheet metal for shelfing, for more tools or tool boxes to be stored. I dea lang ito but it will surely work instead of just adding Gussets, you will have additional shelf pa underneath the welding table, space saver pa !!!, what dya think kuya ?? 😉

Re: Welding Table

I think your welding table is more than heavy already, without wheels do you think two people can move this? if you want it more stable and solid... remove the wheels. Overbuilding doesn't make it better, it just requires more cost and gives the wheels unnecessary load , it you want it to be heavier, add a tray below and place all you welding tools and machines underneath (mas mura pa yun)... but of course overbuilding seems to be a norm for you.:fart1:
