Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
PowerCraft Cutting Disk 4" 1.2mm thk for stainless steel - P33.00
I got it from toolsfromus, edsa-cubao
The thinnest you can get is 1.0 mm thick available in other brand like makita, tyrolit, 3M and metabo
Best for cutting small diameter stainless steel tube and thin sheet metal.
I think this is an isolated case for powercraft cutting disk. If you will notice meron thick red-orange sticker in the center part. It's my first time to get a cutting disc with a sticker on it, most of them don't have that.
After installing in my 4" grinder there's a noticable vibration, akala ko dahil lang sa sticker then I removed it. F_ck... lalong lumakas yun vibration. Pinagtiyagaan ko na lang. All of a sudden the thin disc shatter leaving a small cut on my thumb. Good thing I wearing protective goggle.
I think the cutting disc is a factory defect, trying to fix the vibration they put a thick sticker to balance the weight during high rpm.
So PHM beware.
This morning I will continue what left yesterday using a trusted dewalt thin cutting disc.
Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
The Makita 14" abrasive wheel is very good but so is Bosch. If I buy again I will just choose the cheaper one between the two.
Deflection during hard cuts can't be avoided or maybe I was just pushing harder. However if I want straighter cuts then I will reload the chop saw with a half consumed wheel ( 7-9" remaining ). Just remember if there is no spark then it's not cutting but just consuming the abrasive wheel. Back off and start again or push a bit harder. Constant feed pressure is essential too.
This reply concerns only the half consumed cutting disc of the cut-off saw.
You can extend the life use of your consumable cutting disc whatever brand it is by attaching it to your larger angle grinder if you have one , lets say a 7" or a 9" angle grinder. If your cut-off saw is BOSCH then a nice Bosch large angle grinder would be nice too for your half consumed cutting disc and for faster grinding of larger metal works. :p
I do use a Dewalt chop saw and when its cutting wheel reaches 8 1/2" or 9" in diameter, i remove it and reattach the wheel to my Dewalt 9" angle grinder, so there another second life for the cutting wheel.;)

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
Bro rosy, wouldn't a thin chop-off disc be dangerous to be used in a grinder for angled use?
Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
All angle grinders are not dangerous per se, they become dangerous when you start attaching grinding discs or cutting discs and start using the tool no matter what size your grinder is. That is why grinders have their metal grinding guards, it protects the user from accidents like bursting discs or from sparks produced by grinding or cutting metals. 😮
Also, we are required to use protections like eye goggles, ear muffsl and good quality hand gloves or even a good quality apron if we are wire brushing our metal. 😉
So I don't see any danger in using that spare cutting disc on my large angle grinder as long as it is fitted well and nut properly tightened. I always keep myself protected every time I use my grinders may it be the small ones or the larger ones.
A reminder to all, always wear protective gears when using chop saws or grinders or any mechanize power tools, you can consider them too as " smokin guns" just waiting for unsuspecting accidents to happen. :eek:l

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
Oh, sobrang mura bibili narin sana ako ng madami. Had experience with 50 peso "butterfly" brand- it works, doesn't vibrate bad, but somehow i never felt comfortable with it. Broke a few when i was too deep into the cut.
Yung tyrolit mahal, 120. Lasts just a wee bit longer, it'll still break if you made a doofus move, but i think it's one of the best in the market.
Can't buy another pair of eyes so i wear eye protection and ear too whenever i use angle grinders (even for sanding/grinding.)

@ sir ossie
Hey are you giving away your half consumed Bosch cutting disc? that would be nice too for my 9" grinder, it will fit perfectly. HE HE HE HE joke joke j o o o h k e!!!! :p
By the way the original cutting disc of the cut-off saw's inner hole is slightly wider in diameter by 2.5mm or 3.0mm so what I did was to improvise an O ring that will exactly fit the inside diameter of the cutting disc and at the same time fitting exactly the outer diameter of the grinder's flange, onces attached or installed at the grinder, the cutting disc would fit perfectly,
no slight movement from side to side and when the flange or nut is well tightened, you won't feel any vibration of the disc.
Anyway I'll be posting some pics later on how I fitted the half consumed cutting disc of a chop saw into my large 9" grinder, and giving it an extended use.

STANDARD 9" CUTTING AND GRINDING DISCS
THE HALF CONSUMED CHOP SAW DISC, MEASURED
ONE REGULAR CUTTING DISC SIDE BY SIDE WITH THE CONSUMED CHOP SAW CUTTING DISC--------almost identical in diameter but with slight difference in center hole measurement,
the inside hole diameter of the chop saw is slightly wider by 2.5mm or 3.0mm. 😮

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
Fitting a half consumed chop saw cutting disc into a 9" large angle grinder,
Since the diameter of the chop saw's cutting disc center hole is slightly bigger than the regular cutting disc, I improvised an O ring that will fit exactly the center hole of the chop saw disc and that of the outer diameter of the flange nut of the 9" angle grinder. The O ring was a thin cut from a 3/4" GI pipe, did some little grinding to fit exactly the center hole of the chop saw disc.
With the O ring fitted to the grinder's flange is perfectly fitted into the center hole of the chop saw disc.
Attaching the chop saw cutting disc on to the large angle grinder, with the flange properly tightened, no more disc movement from side to side, no wobbling or any vibration of whatsoever. 😎

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables
Just a word of caution, while the half consumed chop saw blade will fit the angle grinder with a spacer, keep in mind that it was NOT intended for that specific tool... Safety should always be an issue doing D.I.Y., without it it can be D.I.E... Yes I have seen someone die because of a very very similar situation with angle grinders. So please just know what you are getting into and advising, keep in mind that others might not have the experience we carry in handling powertools...

Fitting a half consumed chop saw cutting disc into a 9" large angle grinder,
CUTTING DISC PERFECTLY FITS THE ANGLE GRINDER GUARD and READY TO GO FOR ANOTHER CUTTING TASK
With a little ingeniuiety, I was able to save on an expensive chop saw cutting disc and giving it another life and probably if it reaches 7" or less in diameter I'll transfer or reattach it again to a 7" angle grinder until it is totally consumed. 😎

@ ossie,
WOW ANG GULAT KO SA REPLY POST MO Mr ossie regarding sir timber's reminder of safety in using power tools. Yes I have read his reply post already dated Mach 04, 2011 directed to me and perfectly do understand his concerns. 😉
E hindi naman malabo ang mata ko para hindi mabasa o maintindihan ang content ng message niya, readable naman lahat kahit regular fonts yan and not necessarily in bold letters and the whole page coverage. Here its as if you are shouting on top of your voice his " word of caution" in front of my face, you could just have quoted his reply in a different way na medyo disimulado if you really support his concerns. Bro parang foul naman yata diskarte mo.
I was merely sharing with you guys my experiences and what I do with my extra cutting disc since this is my second disc to be consumed. I was just hoping that this practice of mine can also be beneficial to you guys but then if it will not pass your safety standards then I'll simply keep the practice to myself.
And for your peace of mind and the rest of the PHM metal boys I would like to ask the administrators permission if I could delete all my reply post in this thread concerning the working consumables. :p
Never in my mind that I have any intention of whatsoever to put this forum or site in a bad situation, if that is what's in your mind.
I'll be waiting for the admins response and reply. THANK YOU and GOOD DAY TO ALL.

A DISCLAIMER IN BEHALF OF THIS SITE OR FORUM
I am posting here a disclaimer for the PHM forum so that this site may not be held liable for my reply postings regarding consumables particularly the chop saw cutting disc.
I was simply sharing my experience specially concerning my extra cutting disc and how I was able to extend its usefulness by attaching it to a larger grinder. To all PHM DIY members and non members, I personally would not encourage you to do the same as you may not have the experience in handling this kind of power tool. As for my part every time I use this power tool I make sure that I am properly geared up so to speak so no accidents or injury will occur. I always make sure to know the capabilities and power of the large angle grinder. 😉
If this practice of mine is unacceptable to your safety standards, then I discourage you in doing so. Let this practice stay with me but I assure you that this practice is always taken with great caution. :p
