I have seen the Dormer set and this is not close to the Norseman. Will keep an eye for a metric set if it goes on sale.

The shorter length and anti slip shank will come in handy during heavy free hand drilling.

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

The Pferd samples arrived. Have not tried these yet so no feedback on performance. MIG welding is bit more unforgiving than stick when it comes to metal preparation. I'm currently in search of good metal preparation consumables.

Adapting an RP Domestic Market issue Bosch variable speed angle grinder to accept US standard consumables .... will use this for detail sanding.

Reconfiguring angle grinders setup for a Cart WIP on it's welding stage.

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

I received some abrasives from Miss RD for testing.

In the absence of a label I consider these to be generic until I get more info.

The abrasive material looks different from the ones I currently use.

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

I loaded a grinder and the chop saw with these and tested the no load balancing. Looks OK to me so I will give the abrasives a spin later since I will be building some wall shelves.

Bro Rosy do you want some to test on your welding table build?

I have reserved some for you already. Anyway you still have to collect your spare battery later so we can meet at Timber's workshop or if not I leave the stuff there. It's good because I also don't have a 7" angle grinder to run the 7" cutting and grinding disc. You can test these as well. Thanks too.

Anyway I have not decided if I will go for a 9" or a 7" later. So far I did not encounter any task that the 5" grinders cannot handle.

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

Yes bro jay, that would be fine if ever the spare batteries become available , PLS. do just leave the consumables muna sa shop ni timber, I'll get it from there together with the battery when time permits on one Saturday. I'll just coordinate with bro timber, parang pasyal na rin sa kanyang shop, LOL

Again, thank you very much my friend.

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

@Rosy ... OK bro.

How about this SIA sample? Anybody know what is it, Coarse, Medium or Fine? Which material does it work best on?

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

Sandpaper Recommendations

Product Recommendations for Specific Materials

Visit us online at www.woodworkingshop.com to order these materials in our industrial quality Klingspor Abrasives. You'll find most if not all of the materials in our belt, disc, roll, and sheet products.

ALUMINUM-
Alumina Zirconia for rough grinding. Aluminum Oxide for general purpose grinding and finishing. Open coat is useful for softer types of aluminum. Silicon Carbide is sometimes used in abrasive machining, coil grinding, roll grinding, and wide belt deburring.

BRASS/BRONZE/COPPER/NON-FERROUS METALS-
Aluminum Oxide is most common. Alumina Zirconia is used equally well. Silicon Carbide is sometimes used for finishing or polishing.

CAST IRON-
For most types of cast iron, use Alumina Zirconia for rough grinding and Aluminum Oxide for grinding and finishing. For Chilled Cast Iron or Grey Iron, Silicon Carbide is sometimes used.

CHROME-
Alumina Zirconia or Aluminum Oxide can be used. Mostly Aluminum Oxide.

CORIAN® / PLASTIC-
Silicon Carbide or Stearate Aluminum Oxide products are recommended almost exclusively. Alumina Zirconia is sometimes used in rougher applications. Usually run wet, especially thermoplastics.

FIBERGLASS-
Silicon Carbide almost exclusively. Alumina Zirconia is useful also in rough applications.

GLASS-
Usually Silicon Carbide for any application. Occasionally Alumina Zirconia is used for flat stock or mirror stock. Glass is usually ground wet to reduce burning and breakage. *Cork Silicon Caribe (CS322) is used for wet polishing.
*Not offered online, please call us toll-free to place an order 800.228.0000

GRANITE / MARBLE / STONE-
Silicon Carbide almost exclusively. Usually ground wet to reduce dust and eliminate burning.

LEATHER
Aluminum Oxide most widely used. Alumina Zirconia is popular with shoe manufacturers. Sometimes Silicon Carbide is found to be used. Open coats are also very common.

PAINT-
Usually Silicon Carbide but sometimes Alumina Zirconia. Stearate materials common.

RUBBER-
Almost always ground with Silicon Carbide. Soft rubber or polyurethane is usually ground wet. Most other types are usually ground dry. Sometimes 24 grit Aluminum Oxide is used for heavy stock removal.

STAINLESS STEEL-
Alumina Zirconia or Aluminum Oxide. Silicon Carbide is sometimes used for final finishing because a more consistent scratch pattern is achieved.

STEEL-
Alumina Zirconia or Aluminum Oxide. Occasionally, Silicon Carbide will be used for final polishing on some applications.

TITANIUM-
Silicon Carbide, or Alumina Zirconia for rough grinding.

WOOD-
Aluminum Oxide for general purpose sanding. Alumina Zirconia can be used for planing operations and Silicon Carbide is often used when working with particle board.

Re: All About Metal Working Consumables

I think this is an isolated case for powercraft cutting disk. If you will notice meron thick red-orange sticker in the center part. It's my first time to get a cutting disc with a sticker on it, most of them don't have that.

After installing in my 4" grinder there's a noticable vibration, akala ko dahil lang sa sticker then I removed it. F_ck... lalong lumakas yun vibration. Pinagtiyagaan ko na lang. All of a sudden the thin disc shatter leaving a small cut on my thumb. Good thing I wearing protective goggle.

I think the cutting disc is a factory defect, trying to fix the vibration they put a thick sticker to balance the weight during high rpm.

So PHM beware.

This morning I will continue what left yesterday using a trusted dewalt thin cutting disc.
