Re: Angle Grinder Stand - OK kaya???

Well brad, I have the same angle grinder stand that I use from time to time, its only good for small pipes and some other metals like flat bars or some solid/corrugated bars, but for larger angle bars and pipes or flat bars, its useless, better get yourself a chop saw.

Her's my angle grinder stand in action :

Prepared my angle grinder holder, or mini chop saw to cut small pipes and get a nice looking 45 degree angle for the pipe joints. I tried using a hack saw but quite difficult to get an almost perfect 45 degree angle cut, medyo humihilis ang blade

I could have chosen a 5" angle grinder to cut my small metals but but ran out of the 5" cutting disc so I just used the 4" angle grinder with a 4" cutting disc. :(:D
If you are going to use this, better to secure your angle grinder properly by making sure your bolts are tight and properly positioned.

OR !!!! You can buy a reasonable priced chop saw, at importer's price at Industriasupply143, seller is Miss Mimi who happens to be a member of the PHM community. Google search mo na lang Industrialsupply143.

in addition to master rosy's reply, if you can get yourself a woodcarving disc (the one wrapped in chainsaw belt), you now also have a compound miter saw

Re: Angle Grinder Stand - OK kaya???

@ narmenia, @shampooking,

Mga bros, I wouldn't advice using that carving disc and be attached and used in a angle grinder stand, one, is very dangerous which contains several sharp cutters, two, the kerf of cut is too wide, almost 3/16 or 1/4 of an inch ang mawawala sa kahoy na tatabasin kung gagamitin pang kahoy. That kind of angle grinder stand is not really that sturdy and from experience, the bolts would loosen up from time to time during operation due to some vibration caused by the high speed spin of the disc so you have to check and tighten the bolts ones in a while. 😡 🙁

As I have said before, this angle grinder stand is only good for cutting small metals and has to be secured to a table, it has its limitations, and would be better to get a standard chop saw for larger metal size. 😉

how in the world can a woodcarving disc make that into a compound miter saw or even give it that capability?
Like Rosy said, it is NOT advisable to use a carving wheel on the said stand, you can use it on the angle grinder all you like though. and it would not cut metal, a carving wheel is intended for WOOD. which makes that recommendation way out of line. also a carving wheel is design for? carving? not designed for? cutting? tama ba? what do you think?
thinking outside of the box is highly appreciated. thinking out of this world is not! ingat lang pag nag recommend. people who know less might think it is correct and could end up in misery.

It's OK ... at the very least now we know it's not a good idea. We win some we lose some but we all learn from it.

Re: Angle Grinder Stand - OK kaya???

i was also thinking of getting this grinder stand, but after reading forums about about the grider stand, I am convinced that I should get a chopsaw.

The cut goes askew because the 'arm' is very loose at its pivot.
I tried reducing the play by dropping in a fender-washer (with a
slot cut into it) over the pivot-pin, but I still have to guide cuts
'by eye'.

I use it for quick-and-dirty cutting of rods and 1x1 angles, only
because I have an extra grinder lying around. It's much faster
than a metal hacksaw, but useless where large steel members
and/or precision cuts are involved.

It's certainly safer than freehanding a grinder to cut small steel
angles, as there is far less danger of explosive binding, but...
ultimately, a proper chopsaw is the far better choice.
