Re: Asea 200TIG, DC tig welder

had the wire covers washed yesterday and now that its dry, time to be in its proper place.
taped the cables every 6 to 8 inches using blue tape (which has very little adhesive) just to keep them in place while I put them back.

with the cover back on

added cable ties to keep the covers where I want them.

now ready to weld some....

Re: Asea 200TIG, DC tig welder

Now, not because the gear is great doesn't mean I can weld good...

not yet, though I am sure I will improve in the coming days. (I hope)

was welding at 50amps using nihonweld 6013 and was going as low as 40 amps. I sure could use some educating...

You're still ahead Timb ... got a good machine ... when I started stick welding I can't even join the metals together ..... LOL

What size rods are you using ... maybe the thinner Nihon 6013's will be better for low amps.

other than lower amperage, does the thinner rods offer any other benefit?

Re: Asea 200TIG, DC tig welder

sir timb,

Welding rod sizes has a corresponding amp. 2.0mm dia 6013 around 30-65A. Small diameter welding rod is best for thin sheets & thin wall tube & pipe.

Mahirap magpractice sa round tube. Mas maganda kung may flat bar.

Go ahead master timb, konting practice lang yan.

thanks Bryant, that definitely makes perfect sense. Regarding practicing on round bar, well that is the reason I bought the machine. I needed to repair and maintain some things sa badminton court, mostly constructed with round pipes kasi, but I will practice on flat pieces soon when I have materials to practice on. Wala kasing masyadong bakal dun sa shop ko, puro kahoy kasi :soon:

as for Ryobi's tip. I did get some sun burn or heat burn, found out when I took a shower last night. Will use long sleeves next time :burn:

So far the journey is fun though I have just begun. I just want to thank Octo Power Tools specially Mrs. Kandy Shin and her staff Joey and April for providing great sales and after service support.
For those who want to check them out here is their contact details (I highly recommend them and their machines).:thumbup:

Re: Asea 200TIG, DC tig welder

Hey timbs, for thicker metal, use the 6013 welding rod with a higher amperage, the 6013 can be the thinner rod or the thick one. 😉

For thinner metal sheets, like 1.2mm thickness and below use a thinner welding rod, 3/32, specifically for lower amperage such as 50 to 75 use only. 🙂

Also remember this: C L A M S

C -- Current setting,--- refers to the proper or correct current or amperage

L -- Length of arc, --- refers to the correct arc length that varies with each electrode

A -- Angle of electrode, -- refers to the angle of the welding rod, 5 to 15 degrees tilt

M -- Manipulation of the electrode, -- refers to the different weaves of the electrode

S -- Speed of travel, --- refers to the travel speed to produce a good uniform weld beads,
SLOW travel speed produces a wider convex beads,
FAST or HIGH travel speed decreases penetration and create a
narrower beads.

You just have to continue practicing on scrap metals and find out the different characteristics of each welding rod, ok bro enjoy and remember the safety gears always, :p

Re: Asea 200TIG, DC tig welder

Hi timb since madali naman iadjust yang tig welder mo you can try slowly increasing the current, sabi welder ko dapat matunaw konti yung materials to be welded para magdikit.minsan Hindi enough yung rod Lang. And also you can have the shop teach you techniques, they even offer you on site tutorials doon para electricity nila gamit mo while practicing lol
