Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
AMEN to that doc v, I too would love to own Makita power tools, not just grinders but the thing is its to way way expensive for my thin wallet and shallow pockets. I always buy tools if I can really afford and if not try to look for other brands that will match the durability and performance of that expensive brand or brands.
We all know why this brands are so expensive, they are of industrial grades and really can take complete abuse and punishments on the field.

Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
@ Rosy and V
Thank you very much for your insights on grinders. I also thought about the 9" but really it's just too large and heavy for the occasional Hobby / DIY stuff I do. None the less there are times that a 4" will be small for such tasks.
I have a Maxsell 5" Multi purpose angle grinder / polisher / sander that I purchased on impulse some time ago. I'm really not too confident using it on metal so have delegated it for wood only duty. What I'm really thinking now is a "Rat's Tail" type handle angle grinder. It will come in handy.
I have also have a few US recon tools where I had good luck in buying. Almost like new actually but no packaging. Around 40% less than retail. Sad to say available only in 110V.

Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
What are the safety measures or protections needed for an individual when using an angle grinder may it be the 4" or 5" small grinders commonly purchased at favorite hardware stores or home depots ? What danger will it post for the unaware first time user or users ? Pls. post your knowledge or expertise on this matter for the benefit of our PHM members and non members too, planning in purchasing this power tool for the first time and for their own personal use.
Thanks :p 😉 😎

Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
At most times except for special situations it's best to keep the guard on. Always reposition the guard as necessary according to the task. When clearance issues dictate that the guard be removed then additional body protection is necessary such as full face shield, thicker gloves etc...
Don't jam the grinding / cutting disc to the work piece. Let the tool do it's work.
Keep the chord untangled and if additional length is needed then use an extension cord and don't push the standard cord length to it's limits.
More often than not I also prefer to have the handle installed.
I'm sure other more experienced users can chime in.

In addition sir...its correct to have guard-on as much as possible...and a protective face gear more than eye goggle....if you're not sure to the quality of the cutting disc you will use.....
there's one incident..almost accident...my skilled mason...cutting the tiles...it sudden cutting disc failed...and its blade...flew fragmentedly...God! almost hit the face of the man....reason and its my fault probably.....I just trust a hardware store...that they gave a GENUINE IRWIN cutting disc......better cautious rather than be sorry....
Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
guy's i've been a lurker here for a long time. i'm in the process of collecting tools for diy fiberglass fabrication and woodworking. i'm about to purchase my first angle grinder. i'm choosing between bosch 7100 at php 2900 or makita 9553b at php 2600. hope you can comment on its durability and performance. by the way, the makita is available at http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/1847021/Genuine+Makita+Angle+Grinder+4%22+710watts?referralKeywords=grinder . hope you can help me. thanks
Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
HI crazyboi,
Both angle grinders are good brands, they are both of industrial grades. Its your choice, which ever you choose you won't be sorry and it will last you for years with proper use and maintenance. 😎
You may also opt for the variable speed of the Makita or the new Bosch variant also with variable speed that I saw recently at a mall hardware.
The one being sold at sulit is also good and the price is just fair and if you prefer that item then go for it. 😉 :p

thanks for your quick reply. where can i find those variable speed? the ones i saw in mall hardwares are fixed speed.
Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
There's one at Handyman, Big R, Robinsons Cainta, they have the Bosch variable speed there and its I think 4K plus, you can inspect their display on the rack, I was there last Sunday malling and checking out some tools.
By the way Big R, Robinsons is beside Sta Lucia grand east mall.

Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
@rosy: i think thats over my budget. if i can find a 4" variable speed makita or bosch below 3500, i'll get that. i'm planning to buy other tools such as bosch circular saw, maktec router and a drill press so i have to stick to a budget. by the way, i'm from katipunan and i know where Big R is. I sometimes go there to workout.

Call Best Achievers in T. Alonzo St. Binondo. I got my Bosch variable speed angle grinder there for 3.4K. Maybe a year + or two ago.

Re: Let's Talk About ANGLE GRINDERS
No problem crazyboi, like what I've said its your choice which ever you decide to buy, I was just sharing with you the possible place you can buy the grinder specially the one with the variable speed. Because I saw one sa Handyman beside Fitness First last Sunday. Oh yes two years ago gym rat din kami ng wife ko sa Fitness First up to the time na tinamad na sya at nag mahal na ang diesel, e we were still coming from Baras, to much hassle na for gas consumption.
Yes I myself was discourage to buy it because of the steep price though I like the grinder and wanted sana to try and have one coz from the feedbacks I'm getting from othe PHM members who owns the variable type of angle grinders e ok at magandang gamitin. Well there is sir JayL's suggestion, you can find it in T.Alonzo St. in Binondo, nasa budget mo pa, OK bro. Enjoy your angle grinder shopping!!!!
