Re: Magnets! finally found some

Looks like ceramic? IIRC, that was the same brand that I saw at True Value Park Square a few years ago, but they were individually packaged then, like this. Interesting that the manufacturer marketing/website considers these to be "impulse buys".

How about rare earth (e.g., neodymium). Anyone seen these locally?

I bought some from a South Korean vendor at eBay a few months back.

There's a couple of suppliers in Sulit.com. They can even customize to your specs. I have no idea on the price though. I myself is looking for some to be used as kitchen knives/utensils holder.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: Magnets! finally found some

Speaking of magnets, would it be possible and a good idea to embed some piece of steel, say flat bar, in new hollow block (CHB) wall being constructed so that rare earth magnets would stick to the finished wall?

Maybe screw flat bar to the hollow block before cement plastering, and then just plaster over? Would corrosion be a problem? Being buried in cement inhibits corrosion, like for rebar, no?

Would the plaster that is over the flat bar be weakened and prone to chip off later, since it is prevented from adhering to the CHB? Especially when magnet is pulled?

Would rare earth magnets work well through the one inch or so thick plaster?

Pareho tayo ng idea. 😉

Here's what I did with the neodymium magnets:

Ang lakas ng kapit! You have exert significant effort to remove the holder from the range hood.

Nice project. There is a Handyman where we go for groceries and I've been wondering what I could use them for.

TIP: Dropping a magnet weakens it.

Thanks!

I've seen those rectangular ceramic ones. They're perfect for this type of holder.

Nifty project!

I suppose you don't use that chopping board as a chopping board anymore?

Where did you get your magnets?

Re: Magnets! finally found some

I found this in sulit.com.ph. the supplier sells and customized different kinds of magnets:

Neodymium, Alnico, Samarium Cobalt, Ceramic, Flexible Magnets

http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/1775648/Buy+Neodymium%2CAlnico%2CSamarium+Cobalt%2CCeramic+Magnets+in+metro+manila%28Custom+Magnets+now+available+in+luzon+visayas+minadanao%29?referralKeywords=neodymium+magnet+manila

or their website: www.dstechcafe.com

Though if I want cheap common magnets, I go to Divisoria. Different sizes, Different shapes.
