I think I'll have a lot of time to read and study and get inputs from our experienced Mig welders here so as to prepare for a new to me welding process and experience. Estimated transit time is 1 to 1 1/2 months.

I skipped flux cored wires as this job will be handled by the stick welder. One reason why I wanted to get gas welding is the absence of slag.

The MIG setup I chose will take care of mild steel up to stainless steel work.
I totally skipped aluminum for this because to me it looks like alum is better off in TIG weld territory but I could be wrong.
Maybe make it an excuse to Symbo for me to get a TIG welder for next year ..... LOL

The MIG setup I chose will take care of mild steel up to stainless steel work.
I totally skipped aluminum for this because to me it looks like alum is better off in TIG weld territory but I could be wrong.
Maybe make it an excuse to Symbo for me to get a TIG welder for next year ..... LOL

Thanks for the encouragements V. It took me more than 6 months now to put some info together and be able to decide which welding process is more suitable for my applications. MIG came out most useful since it complements an auto shop setup.
Likewise I broke the setup down to two parts to lessen the initial cost of equipment purchase. I stripped Flux Core welding as well as Aluminum off the equation for now. Initially it would be for Mild Steel and Stainless only.
