Re: MIG Welding Newbie

My guess is yes but it's best to ask and confirm from gas suppliers.

I buy my Arco gas from Atgas Traders.

What I know is that my Smith regulator works for Argon or Argon/CO2 mix but won't work with pure CO2.

thanks ill go ask atgas, good thing their in QC.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

I continued building the overhead wall shelf ... in fact I need to make several of these

I was already done when I noticed there was a defect on the 0.9mm square tube I used ... I did not inspect these prior to the build .... hmmm mistake

welded and grinded ... using stick will really be difficult on this but for MIG it was cake walk

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Some shots to show MIG weld penetration

Tube notching .... borrowed from www.profabricationtechniques.com

So some of you may not have tubing notchers, and an easy way to notch tubing is to evenly cut two 45 degree chunks from each side of the tube ( it helps to mark the tube before hand with a sharpie to help guide the cut)

It ll make it a little easier if you use the clamp and backstop of the chop saw to wedge the tube in between for more stability.

Then your going to want to sand the two sides of the tubing (and the very tips down) to open them and enable the tube to fit nicely on the tube you're notching to.

You can use a belt sander, grinding stone or flapper wheel and vice to achieve this.

Then you're going to want to sand a nice champer around the tube so you get 100% penetration while welding.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Got some new to me tools to help in the fabrication works ....

Hardened stainless steel rulers and hardened cast iron heads will be good for metal working use.

The one on the right will be very useful . It is a center square for round tubes/pipes. I plan to use it for tube notching duty .. the dual 45 degree cut method.

Used Mitutoyos . At least hindi masyado masakit sa bulsa.

Oz remember when we had a hard time trying to center the drilling mark on your 2" round bars ( to use for the metal bender jig). Now with the center square those task will be cake walk.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The first of several wall shelves was done and installed today. This is outside the back door of my wood shop. There is a wall enclosed space available there that I plan to convert into a storage. I'll have to plan for a roof later.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

yes Jay, i cant forget about that time coz it really took me some time to get the center of the round bar. good thing that you have that tool, easier and perfect for that job... galing galing!

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Something to help with the MIG welding cart build ... a more precise and none or minimal metal dust cutting tool.

The Makita LC1230 12" Dry Cut Metal Saw

I chose to load it with a Makita A-87242 thin kerf blade ( 2.1mm ).

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The saw looks solid and had gathered excellent reviews thus I chose it. It's been a long time I wanted to have this saw and hope it is as they say it is.

Will give additional feedback when I start using it. I'm not sure if it can take an after market Freud Blade but will check it out later. Blade size is 12" with a 1" arbor. Currently the Makita blade it came with has 60 Tungsten Carbide teeth.

By any chance anybody know or have something to say about the SUGIYAMA brand blades?

V ... it came with a Makita blade already. I think the dust is minimal because it produces more chips. At the back of the saw there's a container to catch the metal chips.

Have not tried it yet as there are other pending WIPs to finish.

Most likely I will get a Freud Steel Demon for this saw later. I just want to see first how the Steel Demon I ordered for the circular saw will perform.

I will load the above blade on this saw.
