Yes that's the one.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

paano na yung chop saw mo? naka plastic na? hmmmm benta mo na? hehe

nice new toy hehehe

LOL Ossie ..... kumusta na. Hope all is wheeling well na dyan.

Bosch chop saw will be used for rough cuts and/or very thick or hardened materials. It still has it's own place in a metal shop.

The new Makita dry cut saw is Low RPM . I have not checked yet what other blades are available for it ( i.e for stainless steel and non ferrous metals ). Maybe you guys can give some inputs as well on how I can maximize use of the saw.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

@jay,
ok lang naman.
hehehe can you please make a thread for your dry cut saw? comparing the noise level and metal smell while cutting vs chop saw?

eto gusto, kasi hindi maingay at hindi amoy na amoy yung metal na tinatabas hehehe

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

I made some support blocks for the saw and did some test. I did shoot some pics for you guys thinking to upgrade or add to your metal cutting capability ...

Here are some additional data ....

1. I was not concerned with the noise that much but I noticed considerable noise reduction compared to an abrasive chop saw. Low 1300 RPM compared to chop saw which I think is 3600.

2. Minimal to no spark. It produces metal chips instead of dust.
3. The Makita motor purrs like a kitten.
4. No nasty metal burning smell and spark blast zone
5. Don't need dust mask ... only full face shield
6. Faster cutting compared to abrasive

However my blade can't cut hardened metals and blade is expensive. An abrasive chop saw will still be better for these type of applications.

Maybe I'll make a separate review for it later after I use it for a WIP.

1.5mm square tube ... for initial test cuts. My current blade is a Makita A-87242.

It will cut burr free but it needs a little bit of practice in it's feed pressure specially the end part of the cut. Probably needs to ease up a bit or otherwise ... will need to do some more test.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

This is the main reason why I purchased this saw. I want better 45 degree miter cuts than what I can do with my abrasive chop saw.

The saw did not disappoint me. It gave me back what I paid for it.

Here's an abrasive chop saw 45 degree cut for comparison.

It would be interesting to see how this saw will perform when loaded with a Freud Steel Demon blade.

I'll probably get some thicker kerf blades too for cuts when I do want 0 tolerance blade deflection.

Grabe sa 45 miter cuts bro ... pag tinitignan ko nga iniiisip ko kahit super glue lang pwede na .... LOL

Tipid sa kuryente and fab time ito not to mention abrasive disc ... very very minimal grinding needed to remove burrs if any.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Nice jayL,

Ang linis ng cut. Pwedeng welding na agad after cutting. Unlike abrasive chop saw you need to grind the burrs.

Yes bro.... I'm very very happy with how the saw cuts metal. Very clean and does not heat the metal like an abrasive saw. You can even touch the metal cut bare hand as soon as the saw is done doing it's work. No need to wait for it to cool down.

The abrasive saw also has blade deflection issues. The dry cut saw if any has very minimal blade deflection during cuts even when using a thin kerf blade.

How long do those blades last? I can't imagine them lasting very long.

Soon I will now. However reviews say that these will last long if used properly.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Started to do some work on the MIG Cart today . Cut some 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1.5mm square tubes for the base.

I'll probably do a simple one as I don't have space for a really big cart. The important thing is that the Argon/Co2 gas cylinder and the MIG Welder can be moved at the same time easily.

I need a chop saw stand as welll .....

Dry fit .... plywood for a temporary flat surface in the absence of a welding table.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

I was hoping for a 1/32" tolerance ... maybe max up to 1/16" .

3/32" is not good enough ... trimming the excess on this Miter Cut

Raising the blade to check on cut progress

Continue the cut

Now the lenght is up to specs .... that's a section for the upper part.

the base is 33" long and 17" wide .. enough to carry the gas cylinder and the Mig welder with an inch or two to spare

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Moji I think it's better to install a bit bigger wheels. I'm afraid it will be difficult to move considering the combined weight of the tank ( ? kg ) and the welder ( 30 Kg approx ).

Timb what size are the casters I was looking at in your shop?

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The welder has a big fan at the back that sucks air. Is 3" distance between the tank and this fan enough clearance for it to suck in cool air?

Any thoughts ... should I increase this clearance?

I mean like this ..... at present the cart is 33" long. I'm not sure now. Maybe in my desire to save space I'm becoming to stingy on the cart's length ... probably make it 35"?

Thanks
