Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The problem is metal movement so it needs another clamp ...

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Yes bro JayL,

THANK YOU TOO, Yes I try to really contribute to the welding thread kasi nanghihinayang ako, there is so much to learn in welding and metal working , the same as in woodworking there is so much also to be learned but I'd rather concentrate on welding and metal working, since this site really as I have observed this past few months as being a new member, that this is a site dedicated to woodworking, no offense po sa mga woodworkers, I myself would want to learn and be as good as the woodworking experts here. :p

There are times that I would feel sad coz ossie left for the states for good, I have not met him personally but I think he could have contributed more for the metal workers. Its so sad also that some of our members who are into welding or metalworking have chosen to lay low and not really participate and show what they can share. 🙁

Bro I'm not a professional nor a certified welder, though I have been using this tool since 2002 or 2004, I've been welding things around the house and property and just got interested in welding because of its great possibilities in so many aspects. For me having a stick welder and possibly a mig and a tig welder sooner or later will be a great help for me and really serious now in learning each welders proper applications.

Joining this site made me really more serious with the welders since I have now an outlet or a medium where I can share what I might learn, what I might be able to finish when it comes to welding projects, thanks a lot for the PHM ,diy site, nabuhay muli ang pag we welding ko and has really become more serious about it and since I'll be venturing into brass or copper sculptures. :thanks:

I just hope we can attract more members who are into welding or metal working and that they too contribute and do their share to participate so that we could learn from each other's
tips or ticks to better our craft.

GOOD DAY Bro even though its raining and cheers.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

DIY working more often than not means that one works alone doing something he loves doing or maybe something that just needs to be done.

I noticed that organization will be a key factor for saving time and probably minimizing frustrations. Thus I try to build the stuff needed like carts, tables etc.. However it would probably be useless unless I practice & learn how to place back things in their proper places ( after each use ) during the WIP's progress. Finding something easily when you need it will greatly improve efficiency. I hope to practice this more and more in order to develop a reflex action for it.

Here I start to place tools and stuff in their respective places intending to return these religiously here after each use during an ongoing session. Most are not at hand's reach yet but would soon be when I finish building all these WIPs.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Even with all the clamping in the end I still got some warpage on the base around 1/16".

Either the metal is too thin at 1.5mm or I'm still doing something wrong. I should have stayed with the tack weld style ( no warpage ). Today I lowered the voltage and wire feed of the welder so I can do full runs. I'm not sure now if it was a good decision.

Trying out the Pferd carbide burrs. Excellent for corner grinding. Just be prepared and borrow Symbo's manicure nipper. Nakakasalubsob mga metal chips.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

This is how the cart build stands now.

I'm having second thoughts. I don't think the Americans building welding carts are using thin metal tubes. I feel 1.5mm is skinny. I can support the build insides with angle bars to beef it up and to use for mounting the platforms.

I'll continue this cart but none the less I will go and check for thicker tubes. I reckon 2.5mm up is good sizing for this build. If I'm not happy in the end I will build another one.

Ok na kaya kung plywood na lang ang flooring?

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Timb sakto na suggestion mo na 1/2" plywood na flooring. Down supports will be 1" x 1" angle bars.

or maybe 1" x 1" square tubes will even be better for flooring support.

When it's done the tubes will be wider. The design is square tubes supporting square tubes ( twins configuration ) . I can't do that if I use 2 x 2 . It will look very bulky.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

@ JayL,

Bro Jay, of all the welding carts that I've seen sa net, made by guys like us, DIYing stuffs, the rear wheels were always larger than the front caster, I suppose because it will be carrying the full weight of the tank. What do you think.

Try looking at these links so to have more ideas.
