Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Bro Jay, an over engineered welding cart is better than an ordinarily made cart., its safer and will give you peace of mind knowing your cart is a well made sturdy one hell of a piece. Just imagine the weight/load it will be carrying, with all tools too added.

I personally think its safer that way.

My thoughts bro is to maximize the cart too. I want it to hold as much tools as it can reasonably carry. Both air / electric and probably some go to clamps thus I'm beefing it up. I might fabricate the drawers but have not given it deeper thoughts yet. Probably that Kett you showed before will be a good tool for this.

I tried to bid on one but lost. Up to 14 gauge capacity.

@ JayL,

Bro look at this welding tool cart, its built, astig ang dating and love it so much, maybe I'll make one similar to this someday, anduon na lahat na kailangan ng isang metal worker.
Here's the link :

And look at this too, they have other brands too of metal shears that might interest you !!!! And these kind of metal shears are much better then a sheet nibbler.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Ganda ng Cart + Welding table. Looks like it's not difficult to build provided you have the tool box.

If I get a shear I will not go cordless. The Kett is good up to 14 gauge.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Got some work done today ....

Beefed up all tack welds and then full welded the front casters. The 45 degrees front profile makes these easier to access for locking.

Installed the guide rails too ... welding magnets are great fit up tools ... just align then start tack welding

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The base is now 90% done ...

I need to do some more work and welding on it and am not sure if it's a good idea to coat it first with anti rust at this stage.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Started to mount tool holders on the guide rails. I had originally designed this to hold 4 angle with side handles or 8 angle grinders without handles.

For now I opted for the cart to hold 5 of the most useful electric grinder configurations.

This was my idea ... but maybe something is still better to make the space even more useful.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

if you are using shorter tanks, you can mount the bench grinder on top of them... what you think?

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The cart seems to be stable enough to have a mounted bench grinder. However I'm worried about the dust. It might be sucked by the Mig Welder intake fan.

I also toyed with the idea of the chop saw in the top and the mig welder down. It would have been good since I don't have to build a chop saw stand but again I'm back to the metal dust or chips jeopardizing the welder.

With regards to tanks I've been in touch with this company. Looks like they have lots of stock to choose from but have not visited them yet.

I'm seriously considering them as the lady in charge does respond to emails promptly. Also I would prefer to own the tank than lease it so I would be able to paint it in the color I want.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

are their tanks cheaper or better built? what's the difference? I am to believe that any tank you rent can be yours once you paint it, right?

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The best way to cut hardened metals like these shock absorber shafts ...

Planned tank restraint setup

fitted with ratcheting tie wrap

I have to find a way to fit all these together ... mandatory that the push handle should be removal so I'll probably tap holes and use bolts ...

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Push Handle ( Bolt On )

3/16" flat bar covered the square tube hole and tapped to mount the handle

My choice in drilling 1/8" above mild steel ... low speed air drill and Mechanic's Length Norseman drill bits ( which are shorter than the more common Jobber length drill bits)

It is a good idea to make sure the tap is at 90 degrees angle .... LOL

Mid Tank Support & Power Cable Hanger

A bit careful drilling through and through holes in square tubes ... baka hindi mag align sa paglabas ng bit sa kabila.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Power cable hanger ... newbie ... I still mark my weld stop and start just to be consistent in weld lenght

Removable mid tank support ... w/o tank restraint pa ... need to dry fit the tank for actual measurements

Ready for dry fitting of tank

But first .... the most boring part ... pwede bang i spray na lang ito LOL

not a good idea jay, i believe that is a caustic agent...
might affect your spray gun's internal parts...

mas maganda siguro gumamit ng spritzer plastic bottle, if you are planning to spray it.

mukhang paint job nalang kulang ng project mo jay....
