Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Hmmm...may rust bubble yung quarter panel ng car ko. Pwede ko kaya:
1) tiktik the paint to remove rust bubbles
2) rough sand to remove top rust
3) brush in rust converter
4) wash
5) sand
6) spray-on primer (bosny, pylox, rj london, etc)

Or I'm heading for a disastrous road?

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The Turbo rust converter that i use also state that it is a metal conditioner. I can't say for sure but i think it etches the metal surface giving the paint something to adhere to aside from converting rust. Plus i hate sanding so if it makes the job easier then its better for me.

Does kerosene or lacquer thinner remove rust?

I think lacquer thinner wipes off very thin surface rust.

Make sure you kill all the rust if not the bubble will come back. I think you should prime first before the filler putty.

What Turbo rust converter brand are you using?

Its made by Cord. It converts rust in 15 mins unlike that of the 1hr of other brands.

I think the purpose of wiping the steel with lacquer thinner or kerosene is to remove the oil residue sa steel. Even sanding alone will not remove the oil. So hindi masyado kakapit yun primer.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

ok sana mdf bro..flat and easy on our precious carbides..pero mabigat sha..and you need to contain the dusts!!!

me pros and cons both materials..if not for the dust, id go for the mdf.

if you want it lightweight, go for the plywood..but still you have to brave puttying it before painting..its just for aesthetics anyway..pero some DIYourselfers nowadays prefer to overkill a project.

do you agree?

hehe

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

The painting department is not under equipped but rather unorganized . Very inefficient setup. I need to take a closer look at it. Sometimes small things will improve the setup and make it more productive.

Will need the proper mixing paraphernalia and containers.

Guilder Galva Coat - Master Ryobi's choice in metal primer.

Proper floor covers etc..... something easier to prepare and clean up.

The Iwata W-77 gun did good on it's first duty. It atomizes well at 50 psi and sprays consistently even at the very low range of its air adjustment knob. Fan and material controls are very responsive too to minimall knob adjustments. The only thing I did was change to a smaller hose because the heavier 3/8" rubber hose made the gun a bit difficult to maneuver. I may need to fab a 2m 1/4" rubber leader hose with swivels to make this big gun move smoothly.

This gun is not HVLP but rather conventional. I noticed it does not consume that much air. Rated at 8 cfm. Loaded with 3/4 liters primer the 60 gal compressor fired only at the very last sprays of the cup's content. Over spray is controllable since adjustment knobs respond well thus putting out less material / smaller fan and just enough air to drive it but with no degradation in paint atomization.. Something I found out only during the second half of the painting job ... LOL.

The cart will stay like this now for sometime. I'll dry fit the whole setup and make last minute additions / modifications before the final coat of blue paint is applied.

Up to this point I spent 4.5K already in all materials used ... that's excluding electricity, mig wire, argon gas and labor.
