Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Not sure if this would suffice...

I'm not sure if they have but I asked them as well. I'll see if they do reply to my inquiry.

Worst comes to worst I will have to cut this OEM plug and replace it with what is available locally. No use waiting another 2 months just for an outlet connection. LOL

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Maybe the local supplier of Miller here has an idea where to get the appropriate outlet..

Yes I'll call them too.

The Eagle one is good too. In fact I'm using it for my stick welder. Rated 50A.

NEMA 10-50P Plug = 450 pesos
NEMA 10-50R Receptacle ( externaly mount ) = 480 pesos

I just hate to cut off the welder's OEM plug which is of high quality.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Sir Jay,

NO no no no, don't,

Don't cut that welder's OEM plug, keep it original and it may void the warranty. Maybe you should also get in touch with TOOLEC, maybe they can also give you suggestions or answer your questions regarding the necessary plug adaptor or socket. A little more patience, hindi mo palang natutumbok ang right store.

Good luck.

Thanks bro. Imagine after spending 3-4 hours in Binondo I came back empty handed ..... no NEMA 6-50R Receptable. Also checking now if there are some friends are coming home from US.

BTW I plan not to connect the ground prong anymore.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Maybe you can retain the original wire just by replacing it whole from the inside. It could be removed from how it is fastened somehow.

The above could be another solution.

I shot Miller an email asking if changing the plug to NEMA 10-50P will void the warranty.

A Miller.com forum member posted this in response to the query but I will wait the official answer from Miller when they reply to my email.

I would say yes...

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Here is the official reply from Miller.

Hello Jay,

You will not void the warranty by replacing the plug on your machine as long as you wire it correctly.

If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact me.

Hi again.

I just received the new Millermatic 180 Autoset that I ordered. One question please.

My garage is all wired out for NEMA 10-50R receptables. If I change the plug on my Miller welder to NEMA 10-50P will this void my warranty?

Likewise I'm having a harder time finding a NEMA 6-50R here my side of the pond.

Thanks a lot,

Jay

I'll give it a few more tries to get the correct receptacle locally and if not I'm going to cut the OEM plug and replace it.

Worst comes to worst I was already contemplating to order direct from Amazon ( 4 days international shipping ) a plug and a receptacle for $30. Shipping however is a whooping $50. Aray ko.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

If I may, you have waited long enough and the easy way scenario of the $80 socket deal is not worth it. I believe there is a fish left to be discovered in our side of the pond.

What you say is true. I'll go fishing next week. Industrial suppliers.

I can also make a temporary receptacle. Anyway I will be able to get the right receptacle on my next box without paying the exorbitant amazon international shipping. It's just a matter of time ( maybe 3 months LOL )

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

I ordered the correct receptacle and spare plugs from Amazon. These will arrive after a few months.

Meantime I have to DIY a connection in order to get by while waiting for the proper electrical accessories.

I had some spare AWG 12 stranded cable leftover from a previous AC install. I decided to temporarily use it.

Twin AWG 12 stranded wire per prong. Now I can pretty much do anything I want with the wire ends.

:attack:

This leaves me undecided yet what to do with the ground connection. Leave it or install a grounding system since the welder wall outlet I have is not grounded.

Any thoughts on this?

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Here its wired temporarily . Now I can plug it to the welder outlet directly.

Just need to tape the exposed cable joints
. Used the existing extension for the Powercraft Stick Welder. AWG 10/2 royal cable by Phelps Dodge.

No ground connections.

Re: MIG Welding Newbie

Pre made welding extension cables seems not available locally too. You want one you have to make one.

Here I sourced out what parts I could to fab one. Metal breaker box, Toshiba 10-50R outlet, Phelps Dodge 10/2 Royal Cable, Eagle 10-50P plug and what nots.

Cut out a portion of the front cover of the breaker box to fit in the outlet.
