Re: all about Air Compressors

The 2 HP Vespa Compressor is very very loud compared to the 1 HP. I want to quiet it down a bit.

Lately I saw Solberg compressor air filter clones in T. Alonzo. Might try to see if these will help quiet down the intake side.

Also I would need a set of wider wheels to make the compressor more stable. If you happen to see some please let me know.

The 2 HP Vespa model needs only a gate valve installed directly in the drain outlet to make it easier to free accumulated water in the tank.

Re: all about Air Compressors

Just yesterday I was at 5 different hardware stores here in our place canvassing some rubber wheels which I am planning for my YAMATO welder, planning to make a cart so I can move it easily, the rubber tires where 10" in diameter , complete with rim and bearing.

So Jay maybe you can also check hardware stores near your place and try to see their stocks of rubber wheels which you can use to replace your compressor's small wheels. 🙂 😎

Re: all about Air Compressors

Yes you got it right, 10" in diameter, that's the large one, there is a medium and a small size.

The 10" wheel cost 600.00 and it varies pababa from store to store, I did not ask about the smaller wheel coz I supposed they'd be cheaper.
Oh I almost forgot there's also nga 15" in diameter, solid and inflatable, I did'nt ask any more about the price kasi masyado ng malaki for my intended use.

So I suppose if we have it here sa mga ordinary hardware stores, I presume meron din dyan sa place ninyo or maybe in Binondo area.

hope this helps.

Re: all about Air Compressors

@ Thanks Rosy

I was hearing some clanking noise when the motor runs so decided to investigate. I didn't get as far as inside the motor since I found this thingy loose and was what's causing the sound.

I presume it's a brake switch. Anybody can can confirm this please.

Re: all about Air Compressors

Lousy wiring. The next time I buy a something in this quality level I'm going to open it all up and reassemble prior to use. No wonder breakage is higher. Loose stuff cause chain effect reactions.

LOL .... hehehhe

The 2 HP Vespa compressor is probably the best bang for the buck in its class. Very fast charging time. For this reason alone I chose to rebuild / mod and keep it.

The only issue with it is the fast motor rpm which causes belt instability. If there is enough clearance I'm going to install a belt tensioner on it.

Re: all about Air Compressors

looking at the compressor setup I was wondering if a 12v motor can drive a single head compressor. I was thinking of making an on the vehicle air compressor using a freon tank, 12v motor and a single head compressor.
What do you guys think? Is this doable?

Re: all about Air Compressors

Here's a compressor I may have an opportunity to buy. http://www.searsoutlet.com/12-Gallon-Portable-Vertical-Air-Compressor-with-Hose-and-9PC-Accessory-Kit/d/product_details.jsp?stxt=compressor&md=srh_md&pn=1&ps=50&pid=9260&mode=buyUsedOnly

It's a refurbished 12 gallon 1 HP direct drive air compressor. I'll be in the Sears store where it's available a few days from now and, if it's available still, I'd like to consider getting it. What do you think? Trash or treasure?

If I get it, I plan to use it for painting the boat I'm building. The Sears item card says it can be used for HVLP (not sure if that's true in practical terms). I would also probably use it occasionally on air tools like nailing. Not sure if it's got enough capacity for an air-sander but that would be a big bonus, too.

Really cheap for $80 (if it works). Heck, shipping would probably cost at least twice the purchase price.

Appreciate comments.

It's 120V and would need a transformer.

If it was me buying and the refurbished Craftsman compressor posted will cost me around 240 USD landed then I would probably just get a locally available 2 HP Vespa w/ an 88 liters capacity ( ~24 Gal ) for roughly the same cost.

I doubt if the Craftsman can effectively sustain an HVLP gun much more so an air sander. It would only be good for inflating tires and running pneumatic nailers.

Re: all about Air Compressors

I was dry fitting the pump and motor on the tank.

Looking for a clearance to mount a belt tensioner.

Paint stripping is not for the faint of heart DIYer. Very tedious process. Any suggestions on how to do this faster and cleaner other than strip sol. Thanks

Cheap paint job. They didn't even bother to use primer.

i guess i'll do the same, stripping the paint to bare metal...

primer then your preferred color...

I'm happy now after another 1.5 hrs of boring time. However if I painted over I know magsisi ako so I went ahead to strip and am glad that Jon would have done the same too.

Tomorrow I go air and electric powered for the cleanups.

Roloc Disks and low speed wire and brush wheels.

I re greased the drill to be used.

I'll buy some Eagle wire brushes and will use these for the nook and crannies.

Hopefully when all 3 compressors are in series then I would have a combined output of 15 to 17 cfm enough to run sand blasting. By then stripping paint and rust would be another story.

Maybe start with a portable one ....
