Re: all about Air Compressors

"Not buying one but how much does that compressor cost"
-ding its about 18K..i like the upright model with big wheels easy to move around..but if it meant shelling out around 5K more versus the vespa then i will rethink if it needs to be fixed in one place...sayang din yung 5K..iirc the 2HP vespa can be had at around 14K? (sonny?)

No! No! No!

Everytime I buy a tool, I tell my wife it's a dire need. "Ayoko ngang bumili pero, kasi, mapapadali yung trabaho so...sige na nga."

If you don't see yourself using air tools that often and would be using it more on finishing and nailing then a 2hp unit is practical for you. Upright tank but conventional double piston belt drive is a plus.

@V

The Powercraft has a 120L tank compared to a Vespa 2HP which has 88L only. Good for spray painting.

- though i dont see myself spraying some Hanjin Ship hulls, the 120 liter tank could be a bonus when the time comes.

thanks bro.

still saving for this powercraft compressor..for the time being, il check it in detail..but it is my number 1 choice locally so far...cant afford of course the US brands..

Re: all about Air Compressors

does the cost effectiveness of a compressor increase exponentially with the number of pneumatic tools you have?
was just thinking, what if your drills, rotary hammers, grinders etc were all powered by one big compressor. would this make economic sense?

Re: all about Air Compressors

This thread has been a great help for me visualizing the proper way of refurbishing and old hand me down 1/4 Hp Vespa..

It's currently been stripped and primed and ready for paint.. I actually just made my way home from Soler St. and got a new set of wheels, a pressure switch and an oil cap..

Trying to post pics but cant seem to get it right though..

Re: all about Air Compressors

yup, it gets more expensive as you add more air tools, i use two 5hp compressors in the shop when using cut off tools and angle grinders at the same time, while i have 2 3hp compressors connected as well though not running, just using the tanks for additional air storage and as back up in case one of the bigger compressors fail or needs maintenance.....

There is an oil level window in the main compressor body usually at the bottom with a dot at the center or a ring in the glass / plastic view hole. Fill halfway or a little higher but not more than 5/8's of that window ring.

This issue has puzzled me for a long time too. I never got very convincing concrete replies ( vs actual experience ) from customer service even from US based Compressor re brander Speedaire.

As my rule of the thumb I always fill 3/4 the sight glass. So far with Speedaire 3HP, 1 & 2 HP Vespa it has been ok for me.

However I could not recommend the above other than for the brands mentioned which I have tried already.

Probably the 5/8 line of the window will be a safer bet.

None the less it is easy to add oil or drain slightly. Best is you observe the compressor after oil change ( if it's the first time your are filling it yourself ).

I think this view ring window type applies mostly for single head piston models like Vespa or similarly built brands. If you notice for double pistons V-type or single in line they have dip sticks to gauge the oil depth. Some compressors I have noticed particularly the single piston Vespa perform differently w/ oils above the 5/8 level but this is just my experience. I agree on periodically checking the quality of oil.:)
