Re: another compressor thread - target is automotive air tools

nowadays, what's the score with the 2 hp vespa's?

where's best achiever's?

would it help if a larger tank would be used?

how do you spot a fake vespa from that of the original one?

Is there a fake Vespa?

Actually I have a 1/4 hp vespa compressor bought from E.Y. way back 2006 still running good. My Brother-in-law also has a 1/4 hp vespa compressor too on our garage. Upon inspecting they are not the same (built).

Yes looks like not all Vespas are created equal. My 1 Hp is now around 2 years and still going fine. Roughly around 20 hours a week of normal usage and could go more if I'm spray painting.

I always drain it after use.

fake Vespa can be spotted thru its color, the color of the tank and motor, pls refer to "all about air compressor thread" for pictures.

imho, this thread should be merged to the said previous thread, no offense meant...peace

That is correct Ossie, what's the point opening a new one since it still relates to compressors...

I was informed that parts are readily available but so far have not needed any for the past 2 years.

Re: all about Air Compressors

as long its not abused by previous owner thats good.

if you will ask me about this and you will use for sensitive job like spray painting, ill go for the brand new one - for peace of mind while using it. not worrying that it might fail during the middle of your work. even the new ones failing sometimes , but its different thing 🙂

If I had a budget of 40 to 60K this is what I would do. Used Devillbis, Speedaire, and Hitachi Bebicons available in the market ranging from 3 to 5 HP and 60 to 80 gallons capacity at these price ranges. I was informed by one of my machine shop owner friend that there is a place somewhere in 10th Ave dealing in bigger surplus air compressors. He himself got a slightly used Speedaire ( 80 Gal Horizontal Tank / 5 HP single Phase / Twin Pump ) for 60K.

Air compressors are somewhat overpriced here. In the USA one can get a brand new Ingersoll Rand 5 HP 60 Gal for around 53K give and take a bit more depending on configuration.

The Vespa 5 HP dual stage compressor I saw in LYS looks sturdy too but is priced round 45K. I reckon it will not be less than 60 Gal and has a horizontal tank.

Powercraft has some models too in the 20-30K range but with lesser tank capacities.

Re: all about Air Compressors

what would be the trade-offs between cfm and tank capacity?

i am also playing with the idea of getting a compressor, motor and tank separately and build them myself. in that way, any benefits of this route?

Im also thinking of doing this.
I remembered last year when i saw compressors in one surplus shop that sells it by the kilo, it only reached around 15k. From the way it looked i think it only needs cleaning, changing oil and repainting.
These same kind of compressors are now being sold at around 30k , already reconditioned.

Re: all about Air Compressors

I saw one of these japan surplus shop selling reconditioned compressors. I asked for their cheapest and smallest compressor available. This one sells for 30k(negotiable).

This is the type and configuration of compressors that i saw a year ago being sold per kilo which would be around 12-15k.
