Re: all about Air Compressors

hello phm!

question on the Vespa 2hp direct drive 100 psi 25 liter: sa anong pressure yung air flowrate nya na 3.7 cfm? is it at 100 psi?

next tool to buy eh...probably for dust blowing/parts cleaning, light spray painting job (gravity type guns or similar types), etc... malamang hindi ko magagamit for air tools since wala ako air tools. hehehe....... tsaka hindi rin ata rated tong vespa direct drive for air driven tools (min. 4.5 cfm iirc)

salamat

If I were you Mike I'd get the 2 HP Belt Driven one. Best bang for the buck.

I'd save the budget ... save some more then buy the 2 HP w/ Belt Drive.

However if you just want to inflate tires, blow out electronic parts, air brush paint and use a pneumatic nail gun then I guess the one you posted above would work.

Re: all about Air Compressors

kung ganon sir jay eh baka next year na yung 2hp belt driven. hehe...nachichiken ako sa presyo eh. for cleaning pa lang siguro on car parts, inflating tires, then some practice (preparation) for painting jobs on auto panels, house. kaya ko pa naman tiisin yung mga gasgas sa pickup ko.

Re: all about Air Compressors

v-max,

Well 3HP VESPA air compressor of course has lots of power, perfect also if you have air tools which 1HP or 2HP compressors might lack. If you are dead set on the 3HP, better be clear that you are getting the single phase (1 Phase), and tell Industrial Supply Inc marketing man Joseph S. There is another type which is the 3 Phase, this is the industrial grade, hindi akma sa ordinary household electric current.

The single phase is more expensive than the three phase air compressor.

Warning on the weather condition :

Perhaps you should postpone your wife's trip to Manila due to heavy rains and street flooding, baka mahirapan sya when going to Industrial Supply Inc, alam mo naman area ng Araneta Ave, laging binabaha.

Re: all about Air Compressors

thank you sir rosy for the enlightenment...I almost took a chance getting an Italian made,GGA air compressor, but in due time VESPA has freed me from indefinite worries, yup!!!,it's single phase. another thanks for your concern to my wife due to bad weather, sooo appreciated and I got her informed right away. if things turned the other way around and if the compressor will fit in L300 versa van, this baby will be on her way to Iba,Zambales...ow,btw, i'm on a hunt for a welding machine too as per your ad...best regards and be safe brod...

Re: all about Air Compressors

I saw that 3 HP Vespa sometime ago. Looks like a good one which can deliver constant required CFM for air tools as well as driving full sized HVLP spray guns. Give it a good setup of pressure regulation / water separation / lubrication and you're set to go.

Congratulations on the choice bro.

Re: all about Air Compressors

The last time I ask Mimi for a special PHM price late last year for the 3hp VESPA compressor (single phase), it was 36.5K, now its great to know that its gone down to 34K 'til end of August or until supply lasts. 😉

Also advertised in their sulit account. :studsmatta: sana bumaba pa presyo !!!! :p

Re: all about Air Compressors

Hey guys! My father is planning to buy an air compressor to use it to paint some cabinets and other wood materials in the house. We've already hired a painter to do the job but we don't have a compressor and renting one costs 250-300 per day. We live in Davao City so the prices are a bit higher compared to the prices in Manila. A 1/2 HP Vespa Compressor costs around 9-10K in Davao but I've found someone selling a 2nd hand for 7K.

We don't have much knowledge about air compressors which is why we really need your help.

1.) Can a 1/2 HP Vespa Compressor do the job for painting the house? If yes, how many minutes do you think it'll last just by spray painting?

2.) Aside from spray gun and air compressor, what are the other required parts for spray painting?

3.) I'm into PC Case Modding so I'd like to know if the compressor can handle sandblasting? 15-30 seconds of sandblasting would be a really big help. I just want to sand those deep parts of the case where my fingers and hands can't reach by hand sanding.

4.) What other tools can the 1/2 hp compressor handle?

5.) How will you know if the Vespa Compressor is fake? Can you please provide some photos.

I've seen a Jackson Air Compressor being sold in Sulit and I think I've seen a similar model being sold here in Davao. It's belt driven and much cheaper than the Vespa. The prices are from different sellers I just chose the cheapest. Are these compressors reliable?

1/4 HP Jackson Air Compressor = 4,200
36 LTR
80 PSI

1/2 HP Jackson Air Compressor = 6,500
Belt Driven
50 LTR
100-115 psi 8KG/CM

1 HP Jackson Air Compressor (Vertical Type) = 13,500
88 L
115 PSI

Re: all about Air Compressors

I am no expert on compressors but I do have a 2HP which I use for nailing and cleaning for now. I have some sprayguns and will go into painting soon.

I think a 2HP is the bottom end you would need for painting. With a 1/2HP, you may end up waiting too long for your tank to refill while painting. I can imagine that painting is best when it is continuous.

I'm sure the experts here will answer your questions.

Re: all about Air Compressors

Thanks sir balarila. Our budget is limited and I think we can only afford a 1/2 HP Compressor coz the 1/2 HP Vespa costs around 9-10K in Davao City. Somebody is selling a Jackson Air Compressor 1 HP for 10,600 Pesos in Davao. But I'm not yet sure if it is brand new and Belt Driven or Direct Drive since it wasn't stated in his ad.

I've edited my previous post and added some details. I've found a Jackson Air Compressor in Sulit and I think these models are being sold in Davao too. These compressors are belt driven and the 1/4 and 1/2 models are cheaper than the Vespa models.

These compressors are belt driven and the 1/4 and 1/2 models are cheaper than the Vespa models.

If you are on a tight budget try to look for a good condition 2nd hand Vespa with at least 1HP power. Do not get a direct drive model as it is not as durable as a belt driven model. Their motors burn in heavy use and parts are a pain. If you can spare a little more at least work with branded ones like VESPA, Swan, Powercraft, Iwata, Meiji, Toshiba, Hitachi and other US made units whether surplus or brand new. When buying 2nd hand test the unit and check for the following pointers:

Motor- There should be no overheating of parts. Bearings should be quiet and smooth running. Check for grounded connections or if you have access to a clamp meter check for operational integrity if the AMP reading has a slight increase during operation compared to the indicated specs on the motor.

Pressure regulator switch - should be working normally and their cut in and cut off presets should be closest to the manufacturers specifications or within the allowable range or limit of the model you are buying. Check for connection leaks and the check valve condition if it is still working.

Head unit - check for leaks and cracks. Any oil residue may indicate poor maintenance and possible damage. If the unit shows leak and could not reach cut off range within 3 minutes then the unit may need some piston ring replacement. Longer than 3 mins means that the problem may be bigger than just piston rings.

Tank reservoir - Check for rust markings or leaks holes. If rust didn't penetrate or its just paint damage then it's ok. Dents mat be shallow or could start the rust damage. Inspect the bottom portion of the tank. This is the most neglected part in maintenance. Users often fail to drain water regularly and the tanks get filled during use causing rust in the lower half of the tank. Check the drain valve and the metal surrounding it. If it shows rust then this is a sure sign of neglect or the lower tank layer is thinning due to rust damage.

Being a pro-finisher I have bought around 60% of my equipment from surplus shops of industrial grade compressors and they still serve us well to this day. With proper maintenance they may last as long as you want them to. Good luck!

Re: all about Air Compressors

Thanks Sir Willy. Suggestions noted.

I'll take a look around and maybe I can find some good deal surplus units. I'm a curious on the Jackson Air Compressor being sold here in Davao. I'm pretty sure it's a belt-driven compressor. I'll try to give the seller a call since he didn't post the other specs of the product.

Have you used an Air Eraser? It's the same size with an Air Brush but it's used for etching, erasing or sandblasting. I think it's good for sandblasting really small objects or for small projects. 🙂

Re: all about Air Compressors

The reason I suggested you stick with known brands is because of their serviceability and parts availability.
Though I have seen ads of Jackson I have yet to come across user info from those who bought it. Since you said you are on a tight budget I guess experimentation and exploration is in the least of your action. My two centavos. I am not familiar with air eraser but from first hand experience even portable sand blasters require a high pressure unit to do their job. At least mga 2HP ang gamit mo.
