Re: all about Air Compressors

@ Willy

Called Jomera but seems like they only have Jap replacement pressure switches priced 6.5K above. He asked me to bring the sample also. None the less I decided to go ahead with an original replacement part from Speedaire. Cheaper by half but there will be a waiting time.

Thinking to get a Solberg Filter Silencer while I'm at it. This can help lessen the noise coming from the intake side.

Some Weskler liquid filled gauges would be nice as well.

Here's a sample install borrowed from GJ.

JOMERO is owned by an old guy who simply has a "AS PER SAMPLE ONLY" thinking. Part numbers are nothing to this person. When I lost hope explaining, describing what i needed over the phone, I decided to pay him a visit at his store and showed him the exact part i want and guess what? He found the part in just under 3 minutes. It was a simple piston ring for my Vespa 2hp 2000 model. It seems he is keen in looking for the parts if he sees it personally and you'd be amazed at the vast inventory of parts he has in his store. Btw, my Quincy is a 1939, I think, 208 model and he made the valve regulators for it plus a good Taiwanese Pressure switch named SNUA - HS. I got it for only 1,700 php. That purchase was last October 2010. No problems so far and my unit is working 10hrs continuously everyday since then. Besides, i think he doesn't even know how close the unit he quoted is to the one u need. :p

Btw, I really like those Solbergs. Those liquid filled gauges are available in the stores in T.Mapua.

@Willy

I ordered the Pressure Switch in Grainer just now. I thought it best to keep the compressor replacement parts all original since these are still available in the US market.

You mean Weksler gauges are available locally. How are the prices compared to amazon?

Planning to buy these. One for the compressor and one for the pressure regulator.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D7LL3W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Good up to 200 psi for future upgrades. I still want a Quincy and will be awaiting for a relative to ship a 40 ft container in the distant future and slip one in. For now I'm happy with what I have. I just could not do heavy air tool usage ( grinders & polishers / buffers) and most specially sand blasting which I had wanted to do for a long time now.

Not sure of the brand but I know it's US made. If i'm not mistaken i think it's NOSHOK, INC. My friend bought one for his 10hp Bebicon Compressor about a year back. He said it was in one of those stores in T.Mapua that sells a lot of Pneumatic and Hydraulic parts and accessories. There are about 4-6 stores of such kind in that street. not very hard to look for US made gauges. They do cost a bit more than Amazon maybe around 700-800 php but still no waiting period.:p

What is your actual requirement? Does it have to be US made? How Big is the real need? I have shipments of 40ftr. containers from Taiwan and China every 45-60 days to the Philippines. I can squeeze a Good Taiwanese if you like.. marami tayong contacts na industrial sellers doon 'coz we have a partner in Guangzhou who ships veneers to us everytime. we can ask his help to get us a good deal.

This is actually the one I want. For now the need is not that urgent as it would be used for DIY only and not for business.

None the less it's good to know you have sources. If the new auto shop branch we are planning will need a bigger compressor then I'll know whom to contact for direct purchases.

Thanks.

Guys you might want to check out bandsaws and jointers directly from Taiwan. Looks like Willy can procure these.

We are seriously studying bringing in reconditioned woodworking equipment 'coz a lot of companies closed shop in Taiwan and are now in liquidation mode. You know the OAV brand mentioned in another thread? We are talking to a company called JOWAY w/c has similarly built systems but sturdier. When my first batch arrives I will propose an eb to the group para maka 1st look (ehem...bid) kayo.;)

That would be another option for PHM woodworkers.

Willy are you familiar with the relationship of compressor cfm and air filter requirements. Say if I have a 10.3 cfm @ 90 psi compressor pump then does it necessarily mean the filter should be able to handle that much amount of air intake too..

Thinking of this product here for my unit. 12 cfm

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00153AIN0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1LUAP0HMACNBW

but maybe this one is already enough for it. 10 cfm.

Re: all about Air Compressors

Air intake filters should match the suction rate of your unit. Check the filters of both models of your choice and see if their micron filtration size or rating isn't more than 10%. If it is not more than 10% differential then go for the 12 SCFM filters.

Re: all about Air Compressors

Here is what Solberg has to say.

Thank you for your inquiry. The most important determinant of free air delivery (FAD) will be the diameter of the inlet orifice. In this case your inlet is 1/2". The FS-06-050 is the standard filter recommended for the Speedaire compressor model # 4B236. It is possible to substitute this filter with one that has a larger element surface area. Our FS-10-050 will fit since this filter also has a 1/2" connection. We actually can offer 2 versions of our FS-10-100. One with the standard silencing tube of 5/8" (16mm) and the other with a larger silencing tube of 15/16" (24mm).

The clean pressure drop at 10.3 SCFM (17.5 m3/h) for the FS-06-050 is approximately 5.15"WC (13 mbar).
The clean pressure drop at 10.3 SCFM (17.5 m3/h) for the FS-10-050 with the 5/8" silencing tube is approximately 4.36"WC (11 mbar).
The clean pressure drop at 10.3 SCFM (17.5 m3/h) for the FS-10-050 with the 15/16" silencing tube is approximately 1"WC (2.5 mbar).

By increasing the diameter of the silencing tube your pressure drop will decrease but your noise level will increase. If the increase of noise is not an issue, then I suggest using the FS-10-050 with the 15/16" silencing tube. Below are the prices and sale terms for each filter.

FS-06-050 = US$ 16.50 (in stock; EXW Solberg USA in Itasca, IL USA) FS-10-050 with 5/8" tube = US$ 25.00 (in stock; EXW Solberg USA in Itasca, IL USA) FS-10-050 with 15/16" tube = US$ 25.00 (in stock; EXW Solberg USA in Itasca, IL USA)

Definitions :

FAD Free air delivery. Air at the atmospheric conditions of the site and unaffected by the compressor. Flow is measured at the discharge valve of the compressor, after the aftercooler, the water separator and built in check valve. Capacity and power consumption are corrected to ISO 1217 standard reference conditions: Ambient temperature = °20C, Ambient pressure = 1 bar(a), Relative humidity = 0%, Cooling water/air = 20°C, Effective working pressure at discharge valve = 7 bar(a). Clean pressure drop The pressure loss across the filter element determined under steady state flow conditions using a clean test fluid across a clean filter element.

FS-10-050 W/ 15/16" Tube if adaptive to your system is the best choice if you don;t mind the noise otherwise go for the 5/8" Tube of this series. Difference between 11 & 13 mbar is felt more on the price rather than the pressure drop. In summary, you need to choose between a noisy but good Air delivery filter or a filter w/c has a good noise muffler but lower air delivery w/ an $8.50 price difference.:p

Re: all about Air Compressors

That's what I thought too. Pressure drops in mBars. Looks negligible.

I purchased the bigger one for the increase in area of the filtering unit inside. Probably won't clog easily.

Solberg FS-10-050, Miniature Filter Silencer/Breather for Compressors & Blowers, 1/2" MPT, 12 SCFM ($31.63 including tax and shipping)

Here's another reply from Solberg.

" Hello Jay,

The standard configuration of the FS-10-050 is using the smaller silencing tube (5/8"). The larger tube is non-standard but easy for us to substitute.

Best regards,

Eric L. Nystrom "

I went for the smaller 5/8" tube as it is the reason why I want the filter. Noise reduction specially when everything is working at the same time .... compressor and air tools etc....

Here's another comment from one user.

I did - quite a bit. The character of the noise is also different, and seems more bass-ish thumpy thumpy rather than the high-pitched noise before I installed them.

Looks like for us wanting to reduce noise on our compressors then the Intake side is something we can tweak. A home made silencer is really not that difficult to mod.

Re: all about Air Compressors

In my search for a good air compressor oil I read this at the Campbell Hausfeld site FAQ.

Question What type of oil do I use in my compressor pump and how much?

Answer We recommend SAE-30, non-detergent, true compressor oil which CH sells in a 1-pint bottle, part number ST125308AV or 1 gallon size, part number ST1267. We also now recommend the usage of 10W-30 Full synthetic automotive oil. All CH pumps will have either a dipstick or a sight gauge to indicate the proper oil level.

http://www.chpower.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HelpView?storeId=10051&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

I'm going for the 10W-30 Full Synthetic . Either Mag-1 or Mobil-1.

This is the Campbell Oil SAE-30.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000225DU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A1SV1BYDTUK2Z5

Landed cost ( 1 quart ) will be the same as Mag-1 Synthetic which I can get for around 450 pesos/quart locally.

Re: all about Air Compressors

This is what's good when you get USA issued tools. I wanted to know how much oil the Speedaire 4B236 will take and one email to Grainger.com tech support ( 24/7) and I get a very specific answer ... 16 Oz.

I have some left over oil from the last car oil change and looks like its enough for the compressor ( half a quart / 16 oz ) .

Mag1 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Oil

This compressor has an 80/20 duty cycle and I intend to raise it up by using Full Synthetic oil.

Do you recall the name of this type of belt and where to source this out? Any idea how to join the edges when you want to fab a custom made belt length.
