Re: all about Air Compressors

Dry fit ... this is how the air tools setup will look like.

The business end ... pressure regulation at 90 psi and dual water moisture filtration. Water will wreck havoc on the air tools. That black industrial quality Speedaire pressure reg / water separator is the most expensive part of the link. Glad I got it as a freebie with the compressor purchase.

Unregulated outlets @ 135 psi

Connection to the compressor via flexible hose ( to absorb vibration ). This will later be taken off and a T- connector installed to hook up piping for the spray paint section run.

Re: all about Air Compressors

First piping drain ....

It was 6:00 Pm and I did not get a 3/8 to 1/4 " connector to hook the drain valve. LOL off to Binondo again.

On a side note I met a PHM DIYer in Binondo twice ... at different locations. 🙂 Talk about tool hunting.

This is the oiler I've taken off the loop and the extender for the compressor drain. It's not so convenient to kneel down and drain the compressor from the bottom of the tank.

Woodworking time to make some wall hangers.

Re: all about Air Compressors

Those stainless pipes are 3/8"? No wonder the acmes are 3/8". I was wondering tuloy if your hoses were 3/8".

Did you thread the pipes yourself?

All the hoses I will use are 3/8" too but these are loaded with 1/4" NPT at the ends. They came like that from the factory.

I wish I could buy the pipes in full length ( cheaper ) , cut and thread these myself but it's not worth as I need only so much ( need to buy the threading tool ). I purchase ss sched 30 pipes threaded and pre cut according to my length specs.

Re: all about Air Compressors

I started to assemble

and used Teflon tape and gasket maker for sealing

Thought I'll get done with this today but I was wrong. I've got leaks when air pressure reaches 135psi. I've used Teflon and gasket maker before up to 115 psi and had no problems.

I disassembled everything again and am back to square one.:(

Will be needing better pipe thread sealants ( Pipe Dope ) . Anybody know something good available locally?

Thanks

Re: all about Air Compressors

One of the secrets to better air moisture control in a compressed air system is the frequent draining of the tank of accumulated water. Most compressor setups have drain valves at the bottom of the tank which are very cumbersome to access.

Thus I installed a drain extender for my compressor so I can easily drain this before, during and after heavy paint jobs.

Planning to do the same with my 1 HP Vespa.

The stock drain valve ...

Replaced with this setup

Yup straight elbow only ( male - female )

All 1/4" fittings

Brass elbow - 150
SS Pipe 8" - 164
Kitz ball Valve - 300

Total = 614 pesos. Grainger wants $57.75 + $12.95 shipping _+ tax for the kit. 😮

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?searchQuery=4YN49.&op=search&Ntt=4YN49.&N=0&sst=subset

When I do the Vespa I will oft for the cheaper parts so probably around 300 pesos.

Hi JayL,
Try thread lock. This usually works if the threading has a nice fit. It locks the thread and prevents air gaps. This in turn, makes the fit tight and sealed. Locktite of Goldtown Imports and another brand found in Commodore in SM malls are some of the brands i've used. Hope this helps.

The problem is the quality of the local pipe threading from the stores. I somehow managed to work around it by

1. Applying gasket maker on the pipe threads
2. Wrapping it up with Teflon
3. Applying gasket maker again on the Teflon

I'm seriously considering that in the future I would want to manually thread the pipes myself. My most commonly used sizes are 1/4, 3/8, and probably up to 1/2". This would require an investment in a good pipe threader ( dies) such as those made by Ridgid.
