Seriously. If you want to DIY it you must first have practice sessions with a test piece of the same material or plywood. That way your spray strokes are more tempered by the time you work on the actual hood. It will also give you a chance to gauge your confidence to proceed or have someone more pro to do it. You also need to know the base of the previous finish or paint used on your hood. If it's just faded paint then you may use the previous finish as your primer layer for your topcoat. If no marks or scratches are present then use a finer sand paper grit like 600 or higher to prep your topcoat. Make sure that your surfaces are clean and degreased properly so that the paint will adhere better. :goodluck:

Re: DIY painting

Totally agree with sir willy.

I did this to my old kia doors, ang hirap habulin, buti na lang due na din for hilamos.

Ibayad mo na lang instead of doing it yourself the first time.

HI there bro liteace,

Bro Willy Fernando is very correct, If you will DIY painting your AUV hood with out any experience, think twice bro, you might ruin your hood plus possible waste some money and time. It may look or sound simple or easy but its not, medyo may pagka busisi rin yan !

May I suggest you hire someone with experience and let him finish the job for you and while he is doing the painting, be there from start to finish, educate yourself first, snoop around and ask the guy the proper procedure, watch everything he does and learn from it and if possible record all the information you were able to gather so that by next time you have a similar project, perhaps you will now have some foundation, the confidence and know how to do it yourself. 😉

Hope you'd give it some thought !!!!! :p

Re: DIY painting

I also agree with what was said in the previous posts.

Here is a good site to learn or get info on auto painting. It's better to know something about it even if you or somebody else is going to pull the job for you.

Re: DIY painting

Take it from the expert themselves and the best way of learning is to see it actual and you can have some pointers too.
First you have to bring your auv and have it estimate to get an idea. Its free and no obligation to have it painted, Luckily if some painting job is ongoing there you can see the actual thing, techniques and gadgets they were using. When im there month`s ago i was able to observe..Their work was excellent finish. The place? N.S. Amoranto corner palali or ubay if im not mistaken. They do the repairs & painting of cars there in the streets so its free to observe and ask some info you want to know anyway they will assume you will be a potential customer..The cons .you have to spend time for this but its worth it i guess..

Re: DIY painting

goodluck bro. kaya mo yan!!!

Re: DIY painting

1. prepare the surface properly - no need to apply filler kung wala namang dents, butas or imperfections.. dapat lng tlga eh sand down the hood para medyo rough siya at may kakapitan ung paint - kung matyaga ka chief eh use coarse to finer grits.. ang hirap tlga sa pagpipintura is the preparation..

2. determine what type of paint the hood currently has - is it acrylic or urethane - if its still the factory paint - most probably it is still acrylic - just google the ways to identify the paint you currently have.. bear in mind that you can't spray acrylic on top of urethane because the paint will bubble up. If you want to be safe - go with urethanes

3. Color matching is tricky - you could bring your gas tank cap in the paint center and have them mix a paint close to the one you have 🙂

4. Let it dry completely before you buff - many say that acrylics and urethanes are the same when it comes to gloss - the only difference is in its durability (don't know if this is true)

Read and review the net for tips and tricks! Goodluck - if you have questions - feel free to post them here - I'm sure the gurus will support you

P.S. - you could check out my blog as an additional resource - I've painted my volks and lancer recently and you might get something out of it 🙂

Regards,
Mel
