Just a suggestion, is it possible to say create a forum and sub-forums for shop contacts only provided by the forumers?
the sub-forums would be categorized according to say whether it's tools, or materials, etc? how about the same one as the ones in the main community area? (e.g. building materials, tools, home furnishings, home appliances, etc.)
e.g.
Directory (forum)
Materials (sub-forum)
then whenever somebody wants to start a new thread, they'd name it according to the particular material, say,
T-Nuts (thread)
then posts the establishments name, address, telephone (email/website if applicable) and a little note, maybe which sizes they carry, what type, etc. Most preferably, the shops/establishments they've dealt with already or are regular patrons.

This way, we might be able to minimize threads which goes "where to buy..." etc. etc. (ofcourse if the thread starter would start searching first before posting)

Maybe we don't need to create the forum yet but let the members create the threads first then the listings can just be sorted out as more and more posts come.

Re: Directory Listing

This is a great idea B2B!

Anyway, i have implemented this with a little modification. Instead of creating a new forum category to place all the shop directory forums, i just created a subforum entitled "Shop Directory" under each corresponding forum (E.g., Tools).

What do you think?

Re: Directory Listing

...looks nice. 🙂 and I see my stockists thread has been moved already. thanks. maybe we could also put a sticky in the subs to remind people to just list contacts only and in the most verbose/concise way possible so we could minimize queries re the shop, e.g. directions, etc. And for thread starters to be precise with their titling as well.
