Is molding/pouring plastic (e.g., polyethylene) into 3D shapes within the budget/capabillity of most DIYers, or are DIYers limited only to what can be done with sheet plastic (e.g., cut and bend acrylic glass, polycarbonate, PVC)?

glass-reinforced plastic which also called as fiberglass - we can do a lot more as long as its doable. fiberglassing materials are available almost everywhere in the Philipiines.

I buy Fiberglass supplies from Polymer Products Inc.. EDSA, Taft.

Anyway, since the topic is plastic, I used to bond acrylic using chloroform. but now I have no known sources for that. In Binondo the sell a plastic bonding element almost like it, but with a lesser odor..

what can I use to bond 2 FRP pieces together? will Black Cement work as it claims? TIA.

Safety first - always wear face/eye/ear/hand protection as a minimum.

Re: PLASTICWORKS (kaplastican) and the likes thread?

lets continue this thread.

these are the center caps that i produced from fiberglass

this is the original

this is the mold

sorry, no wips. the mold was made from silicon and i used plaster as a backing to minimize costs. the reproduced center cap was made from 3 layers of 300 gsm chopped strand laminated with polyester resin. i had it finished by a professional painter because i don't know how to spray paint. i made this because my girlfriend's dad can't find replacements of the original. syempre pasikat ako. haha

ossie,

sorry no wips. you can ask me anything about it. but i'm no expert. yung kati, sanayan lang lang daw. ako kasi hindi kinakati eh. makapal ata balat ko. hahaha anyway, all materials were bought from polymer prod. (clay, resin, glass and rtv rubber/silicone. two parts ang mold na ginamit ko para sandwich yung fiberglass after lamination. mahirap kasi kung isang mold lang. maraming bubbles and hindi makukuha yung details.

sayang,

daming possibilities with fiberglass. thats really my focus. pero gusto ko na rin ng woodworking, naingit na ako sa inyo. i also need woodworking for fiberglass molds. pag medyo experienced na, i'd like to build a boat.

Re: PLASTICWORKS (kaplastican) and the likes thread?

gagawa sana nga ako ng mouldings using fiberglass, yun yung dahilan kaya ako ng attend ng training sa Polymer hehe
