@ vrcinfo,

YEAH !!!, That ADH will just be great when you start burning some stick rods with your Nihonweld DC welder as well as when you start applying welds with your TIG torch.

I was not able to buy the Argon Gas due to rain last weekend. Will try again this coming weekend.

Thank you Guys but I haven't bought my argon gas yet. My kids had some priorities to settle and my budget has been misaligned. Will try with arc next weekend.

Re: Auto Darkening Welding Helmets

That's ok bro vrcinfo, I guess most of us here have our priorities for the family, nobody is rushing anybody here. If you have not purchased your argon gas, then probably next time when budget permits but I think you can start burning rods using the stick welding process, you just have to buy some metals/flat bars, etc if you will be practicing.

Well good luck and happy welding !!! :loopy: :p

Re: Auto Darkening Welding Helmets

Thank you Bro Rosy.

I have an inquiry regarding my ADH because I'm new with this, the front side is a clear plastic sheet which may get burned when splattered with hot metal during welding. Unlike ordinary welding helmet its glass in front. May I ask is your ADH likewise a clear plastic in front side? TIA.

Re: Auto Darkening Welding Helmets

If i'm not mistaken this is also the same kind of adh that Topphand is selling. Cost about 3,800... Does this ADH has a grind mode btw?

No grind setting Bro Kabasor. Not even a switch for MMA-MIG/TIG as earlier posted here.

Re: Auto Darkening Welding Helmets

I'm using a conventional welding helmet by Fiber Metal 906 GY. Its lens protection is plastic. The front plastic covering is just fine. This serves a protection with your auto darkening lens. Even on high end ADH uses this plastic shield as protection. Overtime this gets marred by flying metal particles cause by sparks which may cause obscurity on your vision inside your hood. You just have to replace the plastic protection for a new one. Plastic is more better than glass, metal particles cause by sparks stick easily on glass rather than plastic IMHO, i just don't know to others experienced. Btw don't forget to wear safety spectacles under your hood while welding.... added protection,,, our eyes is so much precious... cheers

Don't worry bro with your ADH front plastic covering, almost all ADH hoods have them, I do believe basically, this kind of helmets are for Mig and Tig welding processes since using this process of welding, one is a bit close to the subject, less than a foot or so away from what is being welded, Mig welding produces less sparks and Tig welding produces no sparks at all so no problem at all in burning or melting the plastic covering. :p

Now its different when you use a stick welder, you really have to give some space between the metal being welded and the front of the hood so that the plastic covering won't get hit by some sparks flying in almost all directions. That's the difference with the ordinary and standard welding face mask, known also as a pipeliner mask, it uses clear glass to cover the shaded piece of glass inside, and this piece of clear glass can easily be replaced if it gets kinda blurry, with all those metal sparks sticking on the glass shield,. And both these pieces of glass are easily available in the market selling welding accessories.

Actually bro, I don't have an ADH since I don't have yet a MIG nor a TIG welder. What I had recently was a helmet from HOBART with a large viewing flip up window which I am quite satisfied using. Eventually I'll be buying one too since I plan to buy a Mig and a Tig welder in the coming months. 😉

Re: Auto Darkening Welding Helmets

Today was my first time ever to use an ADH. It's a big relief using it. No more eye strain and both hands free. I definitely recommending this be bought also when buying a welding machine. For beginners like me it's a lot easier to learn welding with this one.

HAHAHAHA, GOOD FOR YOU BRO !!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess that is another positive feature in using an Auto Darkening Helmet, it keeps both hands free specially for beginners.

Well I guess you enjoyed your first welding trials/applications. GO GO GO !!! Do continue and do more. OH what did you do first, burn some welding electrodes or applied some Tig filler rods ???

HAPPY WELDING !!!!!!!!!!;) 😀

Re: Auto Darkening Welding Helmets

[COLOR="Navy"]If you are a beginner in this chosen field, it is always best to start in stick welding and know all the essentials in it. Once you get to know the nitty-gritty of SMAW stepping up would me more easier. In welding it is always the behavior of the puddle that will dictate for any adjustment to be made and PPP of course PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE. The so called CLAMS (Current setting, Length of arc, Angle of electrode, Manipulation, Speed travel) will definitely be in printed in your subconscious mind once you've mastered stick weldiing,,,, Cheers....
