Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

That may be something I've looking for! Where'd you get them from?

I have perfect farsighted vision but require 200grade reading glasses. So I'm looking for bifocal safety glasses that is 200 on lower half and normal on the upper half. Today, I usemy reading glass and put OTG safety glasses on top of it. Becomes a bother after some time.

Hi Bro Ding. I purchased the glasses at amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013WIILW/ref=oh_o02_s00_i01_details

Maybe this one is for you.

http://www.amazon.com/Safety-11375-Reader-Diopter-Glasses/dp/B00166SYD2/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1334389043&sr=1-1

The bi focals are two round lenses if that makes any difference.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Are you sure? Give it a try first. I have relatively large hands but use Medium Mechanix gloves all the time. They start out tight but, after some time, snug and good.

In my experience Mechanix gloves tend to loosen up a bit with use. However if these are small ( i.e. fingers for full ones ) then thats another story.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Got a Large Gearwrench pair of gloves...

Hoping to use it for biking as I commute to and from the office. However, upon inspection, it's too hot for bike use. Sad to say had to let go, PM me if interested.

Thanks for the reply bro.

However which model is the one you have? Looks like there are a lot to choose from. Probably other members would like to know this in case they are in need of a welding apron. tks

[COLOR="Navy"]I got Tillman 4236 (42 series 36 in length). http://www.bakersgas.com/till4236.html
[COLOR="Navy"]I only stand 5'5, thus 36" comes just right for me. Taller people would probably needing 42" up to 48 inches in length.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

The operative term is 'over the glasses' (OTG). Some examples of OTG:

Of the non-goggles ...

These are all from Top-Rigid in QC.
Directions: On West 4th St. north of Times St. No sign, looks like residence, just past subdivision guardhouse, on left.
Top-Rigid previously mentioned here:
Workshop Safety Work Wears
Hearing Protection

While quality of these brand name ones seem to be a cut above what the hardware stores are selling, the polycarbonate that they use still seems to scratch easily. Even just cleaning/wiping them causes minute scratches. After a while of usage, you can easily tell a used one vs. a brand new one. ...

Anyone compared scratch resistance of polycarbonate eye protection, locally obtained vs. US obtained ... or recent generation vs. 10+ years ago?

Updating above old post (#73) on poor scratch resistance of commonly available spectacles, both local and US.

Finally found spectacles with real anti-scratch coating a.k.a. hard coat, locally available and reasonable cost. Special ordered some samples last year for testing, through the distributor mentioned above (Top-Rigid), with 4 month wait time. Distributor imported more than the order and so it is a stocked item now, at least for awhile.

Details: Sperian (now Honeywell) S200A
P/N 100[COLOR="Red"]210 -- clear lens -- P220.50 srp (before discount)
P/N 100[COLOR="Red"]211 -- gray lens -- P233.00 srp (before discount)
Note the '2' in the part numbers, as opposed to 1001xx which are also available but have only the 'normal' anti-scratch, not the hard coat 'high performance' anti-scratch. Look for the sticker and label saying EXTRA HARD, as in the pictures below.

Alternatives: Uvex (now Honeywell) Astrospec models with hardcoat, but as far as I can tell not locally available, and more expensive. 3M may have something from a similar acquisition, but no idea what, local availability, price.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Honeywell/Sperian S200A:
Manufacturer's website does not seem to have updated info on this product, but here is a page from the brochure.

It says, "Use a pencil or steel ball to scratch the lens, nothing will be left!!" ... Not sure that came off as intended.

According to the manufacturer's rep, there are "4 coats" and the expected life is "2 years". We'll see.
