Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

This Dewalt gloves has some design bugs. The strap comes loose all the time and sometimes won't stay closed. The thumb backing was not fully extended and the cloth part has some small rips already after a weeks worth of metalworking. These are very comfortable to use but won't last long in metal working.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

i guess its made from hard or fiber glass plastic that is why the sneaker is lightweight 🙂

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

My job involves construction so, for years, I've tried those cheap steel-toe boots at hardware stores, graduated into the local caterpillars. For the past two years, been using a pair of Timberland Steel Toe boots and it's the best one I've used. Comfortable, my feet don't sweat, flexible, and very light. Well worth the extra expense.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Face and Head:
King's Dark Safety Glasses, King's Clear Safety Glasses, Generic Ear Plugs, Eagle Ear Muffs, Eagle Face Shield

Body
If I'd be getting too dirty, I use one of my older coveralls from work (mostly the Ultrasofts as they're not too warm in contrast to our older issue Dickies), else a plaid shirt with either the give-away 3M ScotchTint apron (when I'm doing car detailing) or the Ace Hardware apron (for the rest of the work I do in my garage/workshop)

Hands
Either a Mechanix Original gloves for light duty manual handling and Ironclad KO'n'G gloves for medium/heavy duty manual handling

Feet
Just my most comfortable closed toe shoe for most of the time, rubber boots when it's gonna be wet and my Red Wing Pecos safety shoes if there's a chance of heavy objects dropping.

Hmm... now if I could only get my hands on a pair of Olivers or Blundstones...

Safety first - always wear face/eye/ear/hand protection as a minimum.

Yes doc v and I've learned my lessons well specially in welding.

Before I would do welding projects wearing only sandos, shorts and sneakers but of course with gloves and welding helmet naman. After a days work of welding would find my neck, shoulders, arms and legs so red and so itchy or sometimes mahapdi. Masama pala ang ganuon na your bare skin are so exposed to that strong sparks of light, its as if you are being toasted alive or like your inside a microwave oven yet not knowing it. 😮

Sparks would also burn my skin, had this experience once when molten sparks went straight inside my socks and sneakers, ayun bigla ako nag tatalong sa sakit, left a big hole in my socks and a burned skin.

Well I guess one will have to learn by mistakes to realize what the proper attire to wear when doing welding projects.
-------------------------------

Oh I forgot also to include in the pics ear plugs or ear muffs, its a must when cutting or grinding metals too, or drilling wholes on concrete using large rotary hammer drill because of the high pitch sounds produced by these power tools. This is one big mistake I got by not
wearing one before, every time I would use this tools and after its use would experience a ringing sound in my ears that will last me hours before the sound would disappear. Not minding this and just doing what I use to do before, developed a permanent defect in my
ears, now I have tinnitus, a defect in hearing cause by extreme loud sound subjecting our ear drums to vibrate again and again so much absorbing the sounds that the ear drums does not return or would not anymore return to its normal position. Well that is what the ear doctor explained to me regarding my hearing condition.

Correct me if I'm wrong here doc v, baka may kulang pa sa paliwanag ko.

Well like what I said before, you learn through your mistakes and hopefully can realize the mistakes when the damage had been done and hooppeefully can rectify it. The problem here is that there is no cure for this ailment, buhuhuhu, for life na raw, bwaaaahhh huhuhu. 😮

--------------***********-----------------
May this be a reminder to all PHM diyers, when using power tools that produces high pitch sounds, always wear your ear plugs or ear muffs or for that matter your safety gears, its better to be safe than be sorry in the end.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Its tinnitus, rosy.
I also have a mild case of it. I don't know how I got it. In-born maybe?

I cranked down the volume of my earbuds last year, after I learned about this medical condition.

And thank you for sharing your experience. Hopefully we learn from it and take extra care before we hurt ourselves.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Yes. Safety is something I consider primary to any work. When I started on the boat, I got my son and his friend who helps occasionally steel-toed boots and gloves. We always work wearing them with goggles, thick pants and, when working with epoxy, long-sleeved shirt. One can develop severe allergy to epoxy. Vinegar is always onhand tonwash off any accidental skin contact with epoxy. Will have to start using a bonnet. Nudged my head a number of times on wet epoxy. Tough combing my hair afterwards.

Gave my apprentices an orientation on power tools and safe procedures. Still experimenting with what to use to cover mouth and nose so i don't breathe in all that sawdust. Somehow, a Tshirt wrapped around my head laborer style works. Appreciate recommendations.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Thanks joey for the typographycal spelling of tinnitus, its already corrected.

I was just in a hurry to relate my experience before with regards to safety work wears so that others may learn from it. Before it was not affecting me, took for granted the use of ear plugs or ear muffs until its to late. Napapansin ko parang lagi na lang maraming crickets sa paligid ko, with this iiinnnngggiiinnng sounds specially during the nights when it is so quiet.

Sabi nga ng doctor e mild pa lang ito, there are cases daw na grabe raw at talagang bothersome ang ringing sound.

By the way where are you from Cainta coz I woudl frequent Big R and Sta Lucia on sundays, gumagala sa mga hardware sa mall and DIY shops. Sa town proper ka ba o sa may Imelda Ave. Thanks

Pareho pala tayong may baon na kuliglig. :p

Dito lang ako sa Village East, sa harap ng Makro. Tambayan ko rin ang DoItBest sa Robinsons pag sinamahan ko si misis na mag-mall.
