Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

I got chance to use my Speedglas 9002X welding helmet today. Here are a few observations compared to my Northern Tool Auto darkening Helmet.

1. The Speedglas has a wider viewing window. It's nice but the regular size of the Northern ADH is just fine. I'd probably not pay extra for a wider viewing lens if I was to buy again.

2. There is a huge difference in the welding view once the arc is started. The Speedglas window presents a very very good view of the weld puddle.

3. What makes it stand out against the Northern ADH is that in the Speedglas I can see the welding path very clearly. That means that the surroundings is not that completely dark even at the recommended Mig welding shade to use - no. 11.

4. The head band is light years away from the Northern ADH. It does not go down slowly once it is raised but stays raised all the time. A nod of the head will slowly lower the helmet to the user's predefined adjustment.

5. The Speedglas is not triggered by ambient lighting. Once ON the lens will lighten up to state 3. You can clearly see the surroundings as if watching a camera display.

6. The air breathing bents are ok. I reckon this helps not to fog the inside lens.

7. The Northern ADH is automatic switching and is solar powered. The Speedglas needs to be manually turned ON ( button switch ). It's battery powered and with solar assist only. None the less it turns off automatically 60 mins after the last arc.

Would I pay retail price for it after the experience --- a big YES.

Bro JayL,

That's a V e r y v e r y nice and sleek looking welding helmet, like it better than the heavily graphic designed welding helmets. If it has larger window, save it for TIG use when you get a TIG WELDER. Really a very nice one there. 😉 :p 🙂 :superhero2:

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

I also wear safety boots all the time. At the corner where I take them off (or put them on), I have a can of Lysol Spray. Give them a quick spray inside after taking off. Stops any smelly alien invasion going on.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

+++ if 3M Thinsulate is used, as the tag seems to say. Also good to have that (much less bulky) in cold weather coat, instead of traditional insulation (down) which makes you look like Michelin man, not to mention smells bad.

Speaking of Lysol, anyone noticed the difference between local and US? Local blows like a dry gas/propellant with almost no content, while US blows 'wet'. Seems like even Lysol we have to get from US?

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

i just wonder during these cold months, instead of my feet dry and comfy inside my shoes, the more it sweats...perhaps we dont sweat/perspire a lot these days and thats how my body is loosing some extra water..

and because of that..i make sure my shoes are taken cared of by a small electric fan when they are dry docked...

and i make sure as well that i wear fresh cotton socks all the time..i cant tell you guys how gratifying to me when i have a fresh smelling socks..

for a sweaty feet like i have, i do not fancy rubber shoes anymore eh..difficult to dry them up..

but i dont like to use lysol or any disinfectant for that matter..i just want my shoes to be smelling like...well..like "new" shoes all the time!

...is there a need to make a thread to how to take care of your leather shoes here? i think i can make one! haha...

and lemme boast to you that i still have a tretorn (tennis shoes), circa 1996 in my possession, in great shape and well kept...rubber is good and feels like home! i use it once in a while..the leather uppers make my feet safe somehow for some clawhammer mishaps!

:pinkglassesf:

@ossie,

coolstuff youre collecting now brader...post naman ng pics while you are wearing them..i can imagine a GI Joe Ossie!

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

@ guad
Got my Lysol from local grocery so can't really compare to imported ones. Works of me, though.

@ violaine
Tretorns! Yah! My favorites together with KSwiss back in the 70's. I assume yours are white with the white emblem? Cool shoes. Works well with worn corduroys and pocket tees. My wife thinks my taste is baduy, and I wont even mention what my daughter thinks. But those shoes work for me.

As for Lysol smell, I just get the plain one (no flowery scent). No new shoes smell but a lot better than septic scented shoes.

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

Hey guys any of you have tried the AMBI PUR , odour eliminator, its a fresh and pure very refreshing watery fragrance with a touch of mint. I like this better than the LYSOLs I have used in the past.

Nagsawa na ako sa smell ng Lysol, sometimes its already irritating, well that's only my view and observations. !!!

Re: Workshop Safety Work Wears

..difficult to dry them up..

A tip I got from runners (which are the greatest shoe sweaters per use) is to put some absorbent material inside and surprisingly most have great results with old crumpled newspapers.

Some LINKS that also advises the said exercise.
