I have decided to make myself an electrode holder stand since I got a new YAMATO 200amp DC Inverter a few months ago. It has been a hassle for me when after applying welds on a certain metal project and after doing so of course I have to lay down the holder with an electrode when checking and chipping of the slags. The hassle was to where to put down the rod holder since I've had several instances where the tip of the rod would touch the grounded welding table and " kaboom " unwanted sparks would be flying everywhere.

Well the original plan was simply to make one for the rod holder stand but as I was designing and working on the stand, ideas would come up and added another attachment for MIG gun holder and a TIG torch holder. I decided to put these additional attachments since I have plans to get myself a Tig and a Mig welder. The materials I used are GI pipes/tubing for the table clamp and some stainless tubings and flat bar for the holder.

My fab here starts with the table clamp attachment which will hold the gun and torch and its made of GI pipes and other MS plates. My pics are not complete and would sometimes forget to take photos of the step by step procedure of the built but will try to make it more understandable maybe by some graphic illustrations or sketch up rendition.

Cut up a piece of 1" GI pipe tubing, about 41/2" in length then drilled a hole where I can weld a piece of nut and made a handle for the bolt using a small piece o 12mm square bar welded on top head of the small bolt that will hold the main body of the holder when placed inside the tubing.

Cut up another piece of tubing about 2" in length, then attached it to the longer tubing.

I simply attached the smaller tubing by applying several spot welds all around the joint just to secure it to the longer tubing

These images are just close ups of how I started to attach or secure the smaller pipe to the longer pipe, by applying several spot welds all around before I filled it up again with more welds then start grinding and shaping the welds. 😉

These are my bolts with welded handles which will secure the main holder, then the larger one to secure the clamp to the welding table.

The finished table clamp which will secure the main holder.

Re: DIY 3 in 1 Stinger & Torch Holder/Stand

Bro you WIP reminded me that I had wanted to make a MIG Gun holder since last year and I keep on forgetting. I dug up the pic. Here.

Looking forward for more posts and pics on your 3-1 holder.

Re: DIY 3 in 1 Stinger & Torch Holder/Stand

Yes bro JayL, I saw that picture too when I wa researching for Mig gun and torch holder. Sige gawa ka na for your Mig gun, kayang kaya mo yan as long as you have the scrap materials.

Anyway here's some additional images of my original plan of the clamp only, done in sketch up. Though it was my son who did the manipulation of the tool bar and I was just guiding him on the overall dimensions.

The plain flat side view.

The 3/4s back view.

A 3/4s front view.

And a 3/4s worm eye view.

The clamp is very simple in design, its just simply knowing how to clamp it on the table, how the main torch holder will be secured and know how to fabricate it.

I'm a fan of modular designs. I always want stuff to be movable or collapsible whenever possible. It adds up to the versatility leading to better usefulness when the application suits it.

Re: DIY 3 in 1 Stinger & Torch Holder/Stand

OK, after finishing the clamping device, I gathered also some stainless steel materials like some pipes or tubing, flat bars and 8mm rods and see how I can make use of these materials for the gun and torch holder. Here are my WIPs.

Cut a piece of stainless tubing, 1" X 12" and started working on notching one end with an angle grinder so that it will fit snugly on another stainless steel tubing which will be welded on top of it.

Now it fits perfectly on the smaller tubing.

Re: DIY 3 in 1 Stinger & Torch Holder/Stand

The welding magnets that you see here doesn't have anything to do here but only serves as a guide to get a perfect 45 degree angle before welding. The magnets were useless in securing the stainless tubings since stainless steel does not get magnetized.

And this is the result after some welding of the joints, after grinding some un even welds, i buffed the welded parts to even out the welded surface eliminating the grinding marks.

One defect I encountered was the slight bending of the top tubing during welding, I guess because of the heat when I made two passes on the joint.

Re: DIY 3 in 1 Stinger & Torch Holder/Stand

Finding the joint to be so simple, I decided to add something fanciful or artsy since its more of a personal torch/gun holder, kung baga anything is still possible for I can add or remove something from it. So I got my old metal craft bending jigs and made some designs on some flat bars lying around which will serve as my guide for the stainless steel flat bars that I intend to bend into somethings also. :p

Then started bending my stainless steel flatbars.

Bro rosy, how did you bend this? Did you pull on the workpiece itself or you had another tool that gives more leverage?

Then welded it up to the welded tubings and also added a ring to serve as a stopper when inserted inside the other main part of the clamping device.

Sorry bro joey81, its just now that I saw your inquiry regarding bending this flat bar. YES BRO, I did the pulling myself on the work piece, hindi naman masyadong makapal yung stainless steel flat bar that is why its still a bit easy to bend it manually but it has to be secured first with a vise grip on the bending jigs.

I got this ideas of the jigs from youtube last year and have been practicing with it and even made my own jigs. Here are some links you might be interested to learn from DAVID AL !!!

Aside from these video clips, there are many more interesting videos regarding ornamental metal working and metal working jigs and benders.

Hope these links interests you and make you understand something about ornamental metal works.
