This is the piece of rubber I was talking about, its a scrap piece from a rain boots that's been left in the storeroom and has not been used for decades, no more traction on its sole.

A very familiar brand of slippers and rain boots, at least that old rubber boots can still be used for other purposes. Well a tire interior can also be used to serve as lining inside the tubing. LOL

I have inserted the scrap rubber inside the tubing and by this I guess that Mig gun now won't be experiencing any scratches or whatsoever.

I have not glued it yet on to the inside of the tubing, just wanted to see first how the rubber will fit snugly inside. Maybe I can just put a drop or two of some instant dry fast glue.

Yes ... sometimes the mig gun trigger can be accidentally hit. If there is no insulation the wire will arc inside as the holder is connected to a grounded table.

If that is the problem, then its no problem actually on the clamp I made coz I glued a 1/2" rubber padding underneath the top metal clamp, then also glued a thin piece of rubber on the flat washer welded at the end of the bolt so when the clamp is placed and tightened on the welding table, it will not be touching any metal to metal even though the welding table is grounded.

Bro JayL, INISIP KO NA YUN beforehand kaya malaki ang mouth opening ng fabricated clamp, there will be no grounding of whatsoever kahit madikit yung rod or wire sa holder.

I'll post a pic of it tomorrow para mas madaling ma visualize, hehehehe.

OK bro. Do you have an idea where to get a magnet strong enough to hold the holder? More often than not a quick repositioning of a Mig gun holder will be convenient.

Here are some images of the insulated holder clamp :

Rubber padding of 1/2" thick has been glued on to the underside of the top plate, then also on the welded flat washer at the tip end of the locking bolt.

This is how the clamp will appear when fixed on the welding table, no contact of metal to metal even though the welding table is attached to the ground clamp.

For Mig Gun I like this insulation approach but PVC material.

Yes the PVC tubing/piping will do just fine for insulation but for my need or purpose won't really be needing the insulation inside the holder, my clamp is already insulated, there will be no contact of metal to metal so the holder will never be affected by the grounding clamp.

Well using a magnet will surely make the MIG gun holder be affected by the grounding clamp if placed on top of the welding table.

IMHO, A bevel joint joint must have been taken into consideration to avoid convexity, thus preventing to apply inner weld. For that matter it will look more slick than massive looking for just simple fun[COLOR="Navy"]ction as mig gun holder.

I think I will remove this magnetic base and just bolt the holder to the cart. Come to think about it I never moved this gun holder ever since I stuck it there. I can then use the magnetic base for my welding table gun holder where it will be more useful.

Rare earth magnets are available in Binondo, or if you can find enough defective hardisk drives for their magnets.
