Finally decided to fabricate a sheet metal bender because I needed one to finish a previous project. I made use of an old I Beam measuring 4" X 6" X 58" as my main base. Also made use of some scrap angle bars with 1/4" thickness and flat bars of 1/2" thick. The I Beam is 58" in length but its more for a 48" wide bend.

This is the I Beam that will be my main base. Got my 5" angle grinder and fitted it with a cup brush to clean and
remove some old paint and rusts.

And these are the other components for the sheet bender, 1/2" X 3" flat bar and some assorted angle bars,
2 1/2" and 3", both 1/4" thick.

And for my HINGES :

As for my hinges, I used an old 3/4" BI pipe with 1/8" thickness as the bushing and then bought a shafting rod as
my pin. Brought the shafting rod to a machine shop to have the rod sort of shave the surface a little to fit inside my
bushing. Also cut the BI pipe into different sections. 4 pcs of 1 1/4" and 2 pcs of 2".

Then cut my 2.5" X 2.5" angle bar to 58", same length as the I Beam for which I cut a small portion of the end tips
of the angle bar to fit my hinges, that's about 4 5/16" in length. Sorry but this process I forgot to take some pics the
same with the cutting of some portion of the I Beam at both ends.

These are the welded hinges at both ends of the I Beam and the angle bar.

These are just the underside of the angle bar. Simply made some spot welds to just strengthen the hold of the hinges
to the surface of the angle bar.

This is how I cut the end of the angle bar where my hinges will seat and be welded.

The hinge will sit on top of that portion where it will be welded permanently.

Decided to cut some triangular gussets as support under the angle bar to prevent future movement/warping
during the process of bending thicker sheet metal.

Its 3/8" thick.

This is how these gussets will be placed and welded under the angle bar.

Now working on the brake, my 3" width flat bar is kinda short in width for the angle bar that will seat and be
welded on top so I decided to cut some pieces of plates with the same thickness and would place them
on both ends and the middle, I will simply do a full weld on the plates, this will secure its hold on the angle bar when welded.

And the two other plates that were full welded had the same outcome.

Nice to see you welding again, rosy. BTW, where do you buy scrap metal? I might build a welding table.

HEHEHE, actually bro I have been doing metal works continuously last year working on my welding cart which is nearing completion plus other small projects as requested by the wife. I just need to work on this particular metal bender for the drawer of the cart.

I source my metals from a metal store near our house, also from a scrap metal depot near us and from some junk yard around the neighborhood.

Well this is another part of the brake that I have to work on. Cut some 3" X 3" angle bar of 3 3/8" wide. I need a thicker angle bar so these two will be welded together one on top of the other but before that, preparations has to be made, I beveled all the edges and also drilled four holes on one angle bar, purpose of this is that so I can also weld and plug the middle portion of the other angle bar.

After working on the two angle bars, drilled holes for the bolt and polished with a flap disc,
decided to assemble the main brake.

Positioned the angle bar to one end of the prepared flat bar.

I will attach and do some1 1/ 2" or so of fillet weld in this corner.
