Re: fabricating winch mount plate

i pre drill it with small bit to make it more easier when drilling large one.[IMG][/IMG]
no sweat! hehehe...
[IMG][/IMG]
heating the metal due to a welding process will make the plate more hard to drill[based on my experience] so i prefer to drill it first.

Re: fabricating winch mount plate

i tack weld both sides of the plate..
[IMG][/IMG]
my favorite part..melting metal!
[IMG][/IMG]
im using 6011 and 6013 rods but im having trouble starting an arc in 6011 so i switch to more versatile 1/8 6013 rods.here are some of my weld using 6013.
[IMG][/IMG]
im using my yamato dc welder.set it to 170 amps.

Bro, are you running the Yamato welder DC Electrode Positive or DC Electrode Negative while using 6011 rods ?

What brand are your 6011 rods and the size pls?

Re: fabricating winch mount plate

reinforcing bottom side of the plate to withstand the force of pulling heavy loads.
[IMG][/IMG]
these are the weld beads that i produce using yamato ac welder and 3/32 6013 rods.i set it to 110 amps

Hi there bro bugel,

Nice WIP there you are doing. But base on these pics, I see you made a butt joint, I am not questioning your approach, weld puddles are good, I was just wondering with the thickness of the plates you are joining, how come you did not bother anymore to at least grind one side to a bevel so to make a complete fusion of the metals being welded, to have a total penetration on the joint.
Just curious here ! I am pretty sure even though both sides are welded, there is a possibility of still a metal gap in the middle of the butt joint.

Another thing bro, since you are doing a butt joint with no bevels on either metal plate, probably you could have used a E7018 or a E7024 rods instead of just the E6013 rod which has only a shallow penetration compared to the E70XXs rods with stronger tensile strength and deeper penetration.

Just my 2 cents worth of suggestion lang naman. No offense at all with your work, "DISKARTE MO YAN BRO" I just hope you will have no problem in the future that the joint might give way since you will be installing a winch on it.

I switch it both ways sir..
DCEN-im having hard time starting an arc.
DCEP-arc is very strong..molten metal flying everywere! so I discontinue do welding im afraid that this will burn my skin since I was wearing sando only.btw im using 1/8 nihon weld.

I do grind it sir rosy, how come that i skip that part..n lobat yata tablet ko so thats why i have no pics to post. Im searching 7018 rod here unfortunatelly theres no one selling it.i bought 6011 rods which is deep penetrating type of rod if you change the polarity from DCEN to DCEP but i find it hard to use it so I stick to 6013.
