But then you should have your own dark glass. I have thought a number of students how to do SMAW. In less than a day they are on their own.

@ baldass_mark,

First of all WELCOME to the forum but please do introduce yourself first, the PHM index page has a Member Introductions located at the lower portion, under the Gazebo Forum. We'd like to know you more as a new member, where you are from and perhaps your interests or hobbies as added info.

Thanks

Now with regards to your query,

You are lucky to have time to enroll in a welding school and enjoy the guidance of an instructor. Anyway forget for the meantime the term " kaliskis bangus or Kaliskis isda ", that will come naturally in the long run. What you should concentrate more is how to start or fire up your welding rod properly and how you will apply those weld beads correctly basically on the 1G position which is the easiest.

You will need a lot of practice. I mean a lot of practice to make yourself confident in applying the weld beads, if you are using a 6013 1/8" rod, simply just drag it slowly but consistently on a piece of say 6" flat bar, do this practice several time filling up the entire surface with weld beads.

After chipping off the slags observe your weld beads, you will see small beads on top of each other. Then again practice more 'till you get more confident in applying those weld beads with the same process filling the surface with welds.
And on another flat bar, practice applying your beads with a little oscillation or movement like doing small letter Cs from left to right, again do this practice on two for more flat bars. Be sure your consistent with the angle of your rod, also the travel speed and proper amps for the rod you are using.

It would be best if you have a welder at home where you can continuously practice so you can concentrate on what your instructor have thought you.

To help you more, you can watch welding videos by Jody Collier, he does stick, mig and tig so well, explains each step very clearly that is why he has lots and lots of followers.

Hope this helps !! :whistle::goodluck:

rosy is correct you need a lot of practice along with a lot of tears:) mas madali ka matuto kung titingnan mo kung papano ginagawa ng mga experts instead of discovering it by yourself. nung nag aral ako ng welding halos wala akong nakuha kundi sakit ng mata nung nag helper ako sa welder tiningnan ko ang pagweld niyo pag break time ako naman welder:0

@ baldass_mark,

Hope you can share your progress with us. Yes thugstools_413 is right about your welding schedule, its kinda odd having only one session of welding in a week, parang nakaka walang gana kasi by next welding session parang limot mo na pinag aralan at itinuro ng instructor. Are you taking welding lessons from Tesda or a private individual if I may ask?

Like I said before its best to have your own welder at home so you can practice some more burning those rods. Its so true that practice makes perfect. Buy a kilo or two kilos of 6013, 1/8 welding rods, mas mura and continue practicing on 1/8 or 3/16 inch thick flat bars.

See if you can read my thread "Lets practice Stick welding and Proper bead applications", you can follow some simple exercises there on page 2 and 3. :book1:

Good luck again !! :whistle:
