I am opening this thread for the purpose of sharing some knowledge in stick welding, how I manage to learn how to apply good and decent weld beads on metal ( mild steel ). I would like also to impart some good things for those who are planning or may have the interest in welding, particularly stick welding. I know there are many in the community. 🙂 :p

Since I am in the process off doing my Heavy duty welding table, I guess from there I could share some pointers and pick up some images and explain how it came about. In the process I will also infuse some topics on how to apply welds on different positions, flat, horizontal, vertical, over head. how to do root pass, hot pass cappings, right use of amperage while welding, choosing the right welding rods and many more. 😉

I would like to reiterate that I am not a professional welder, I learned by watching other welders do their stuff, I ask other welders for advise and I practice a lot and maybe by doing so this practice welding , I get to learn and likewise you too will absorb somethings that will be beneficial for your future applications. So in the coming days I will be infusing images that will support this thread. Thank you and have a good and safe day to all. :thanks:

@kabasor,

Well you will be able to see my step by step WIP for the Heavy Duty welding table build sa metal working forum. With regard to this thread, I will just infuse images related to certain topics which I will be discussing plus I will also be adding new pics as I go along.

I have a very strong feeling this thread will be staying for a long time, many informations to be shared here and I hope you can in some ways or another share also some of your knowledge on the subject since you have been formally trained by Tesda welding instructors. 😉 :rolleyes:

THANKS bro and stay safe.

I could be wrong but my opinion is that Stick Welding is still the most widely used welding process here in our country.

This will be a good thread.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Nope JayL, you're not wrong, and yes you are absolutely right, stick welders are still the most used machine in our country, just go to the provinces and check local hardware stores who sells welding machines, you will still see locally assembled cheap welders, plus some Yamatos on the sides.

HEHEHEHE, I have asked hardware store owners locally about MIG welders and TIG welders and they would answer me what are they for and also don't even know the meaning of smaw, mig or tig. Even in some known malls in the metropolis selling welders, they have no idea what they are for too. How so frustrating that I still have to explain to them their meanings just to educate them. :furious: :saiyan:

Good investment. I too am planning to get a small DC welder. I do have a MIG Welder but it becomes a bit useless when the work to be done is on the upper bldg floors and the available power is only from the 15 to 20A outlet.

A perfect job for a DC Inverter Stick welder.

@jayl
aside from the size and weight, how much better is the inverter? the conventional arc machine i have seems fine for angle bars and such, but is tricky for sheet metal.
i considered starting with oxy-acetylene because it's supposedly the easiest and most versatile method, but the setup seemed impractical.

@zepol

Power savings. Inverter stick welders consume substantially less power that a conventional arc machine.

For sheet metal I don't think a stick welder will shine. Get a Mig or Tig . Oxy ace will work well too.

Just to share my video...

Pipe welding is great for honing your welding skills.

Practice on a 45 degree pipe welding from rootpass, fill pass up to capping, includes all position (overhead, vertical and flat position). Forehand and backhand welding techniques is also shown in pipe welding...

Welding rod used: E6011, E7018

@ kabasor,

Bro thanks for your support on this thread and thanks for the good videos on Arc welding. :thumbup:

@ nevoj19,

Bro thanks too for these video clip links on SMAW Arc Welding by Khawajaarslanahed, videos from 1 to 10, great tutorial videos man !! Yes I have seen some of his videos before but completing #s 1 to 10, I guess will be enough to learn the basics of stick welding. :2thumbsup::chopper:

HEHEHEHE, THIS GOT ME THINKING ! do I still have to post pics of my own to be able to share some tips on SMAW/ Stick Welding ? LOL 😀
