@ balarila ( Ding ),

Bro, do post your initial WIPs so others may also be inspired, don't worry about the ugly or not so good weld applied, it can still be rectified, you know already how to, diba ? PICS na ! :D:p

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

PHM bros,

I've been doing some planning for some small projects when I finally learn how to use the Yamato DC welder. Not knowing how much steel cost, one lunchtime, tumakas ako sandali sa opis at nag-"canvass" ako last week ng prices ng mild steel. Had no idea yet what size or thickness to inquire about so I just listed down a few random steel sizes that first came to mind. These two shops that I visited are all in Pasay.

Here's the list I came up with for Mild Steel prices:

New Compact Steel Mdsg - 8317912/8310624/8314597
Steel Plates
1/2" X 12" x 12" - Php505
1/4" X 12" x 12" - Php240
Square Tubes - length @20'(6m)
2" x 2" x 2mm - Php1090
1.5" x 1.5" x 2mm - Php730
2" x 2" x 3mm - by order only, price not available
1.5" x 1.5" x 3mm - by order only, price not available

Titan - 8310195
Steel Plates
1/2" X 12" x 12" - Php520
1/4" X 12" x 12" - Php260
Square Tubes - length @20'(6m)
2" x 2" x 2mm - Php900
1.5" x 1.5" x 2mm - Php720
2" x 2" x 3mm - Php2150
1.5" x 1.5" x 3mm - Php1620

Share ko lang sa PHM para kahit p'ano e meron tayong idea ng price range ng mild steel for our projects.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Since some of you guys (new welders) have purchased the 5kg Cigweld Ferrocraft 22 from TOOLEC, so this box contains pala the E7024 drag rod, I have here a link you can read and a video you can watch to understand better this welding electrode plus other applications of welding electrodes.
It is from " WeldingTipsandTricks.com " . ;):))

importante ba malaman what welding rod numbers are? di ba maging too technical? :p

In my opinion it's always better that one fully understands what he's doing. Sometimes it's better to go a bit more technical to grasp the concept.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Jon, four to eight good spot welds could have been enough to hold the small pipe for your welding rod holder;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
But well I guess you were so eager to apply more welds on the metal, truly using the Yamato DC Inverter arc welder does really makes you want to continuously weld on metal, very easy to use with soft start, less weld spatters, less noise, only sort of hizzing sound when welding and less smoke or fumes. :p

Well just continue practicing during your free time and concentrate first on applying weld bead one at a time, saka na muna ang weld weaving, familiarize hand pulse in applying these weld beads. Weld weaving originated in applying weld beads close to each other and then applied in a continuous manner, IMHO. :boxing1:

pasensya na bro rosy...i really noticed na naparami ang welds, gusto ko p[a ngang kapalan e....
..practice practice lang muna...

and bro jayL, was right, kailangan talaga malinis ang surface to be weld para maganda ang result...i notice also na kailangan taasan ang amperahe para gumanda ang kalabasan ng welds...

sticky tong thread na ito !!!

thanks brads jayL and rosy...
huwag kayo mananawang mag share ng inyong advices ha !!!

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

A DIY PIPE WELDING OR TUBE WELDING, small tubes to be more exact.

I have here another simple exercise for our new welding newbies, new owners of the YAMATO 200amp DC Inverter arc machine. Since I have some pending metal project for some small entrance gate, I decided to make a run or practice on some scrap GI pipes or tubing, just to get the feel on how I will approach the project.

Prepared my angle grinder holder, or mini chop saw to cut small pipes and get a nice looking 45 degree angle for the pipe joints. I tried using a hack saw but quite difficult to get an almost perfect 45 degree angle cut, medyo humihilis ang blade

Then started cutting my sample pipes to be used for this exercises.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

And for the other tube attachments like :

I just shaped the ends of the pipes/tubing to fit the different size of the main tubing frames that I intend to do.

Ends were shaped by the use of the edge of the grinding disc, grinding it little by little until it fits almost perfect to the corresponding pipe/tubing.

And with these two pieces, simply just hammered each ends to fit each size of pipe or tubing where it will be welded.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

And for the first tubing to be joined, the 1" GI pipes cut to 45 degrees each end.

Tacked or spot welded on each side.

Then started applying continuous spots or weld beads on the joint. 😉

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

On the entire joint, what I did was just to apply spot welds one at a time, no weld weaving was done so not to overheat the metal and probably burn some holes some where. After these applications, I intend to use an angle grinder and gring all the welds up to the tubing surface to make it look clean.
