Brader Rosy is this hard to do? I have to make 12 joints. Ganito sana yung gusto kong joint sa legs ng canteen table wip ko. Or will I just go with method 2 and hammer the ends. Mas maganda kasi yung joint using method 1.

the nice thing about metalworking is 95% of the time the finished products gets painted, madali mag masilya bago mag paint....:tounge2:

Willy1467, brad, doing the notch on pipes or tubings is not really that hard, just have to secure it to a table vise and you can start shaping the edges with your angle grinder little by little until you get the right size and shape that will fit its tubing counter part.

Both methods if you call it that way, will do. it will simply depend on what method you will use that will serve well your purpose., wait ka muna 'til I have posted all the tubing/pipe welding exercises so you can decide what to use for your project. Is it notching the pipe or hammering the ends of the pipe .

Yes timbs, very true, sa metalworking maraming daya or remedyo sa mga joints which can be covered up by masilya and painting, unlike in woodworking, dapat laging precise and mga cuts ng kahoy, mortises and tenons, dados, dovetail joints precise din dapat, perfectly squared each side tapos flat na flat ang mga tabla . Mas mabusising gawin. 😮 HEHEHEHE 😀

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

To continue with this DIY tubing/pipe welding :

OK, after grinding the pipe joints and let's presume this will be the main frame of a small gate project, I will now see other options on how to attach the same size of pipe or tube with a notch on one end.

OK, there it is, fits perfectly on the contour of the base tubing, just needs to be welded.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Some fabricators like to bevel the pipe joint edges too.

middle image bottom one

Looks like a chop saw and a belt sander was used in this tube notching ... angle grinder can be used as a tool substitute as what Bro Rosy did.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

And so I applied some spot welds on each sides to secure its attachment prior permanent weld be applied.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

@JayL,

Yeah, right there bro JayL, it would be nice to have a notching machine or tool, will be very handy for tubing/piping projects, for sure it will be faster than grinding each end one by one and then fitting or re fitting its counter part to see if it fits already.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Another way to attach the same size of tubing/piping :

By this, you hammer one end to reduce its diameter to fit the top side of the pipe.

On the three images shown, you can see that the hammered end of the pipe sits perfectly on top of the main pipe frame but with a little grinding on the two narrow ends of the pipe.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Then again applied tack or spot welds on one side.

Now the pipe is secured and attached to the main frame and ready for permanent welding.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Next now is fitting and attaching a smaller diameter pipe, 1/2" GI pipe to the main base pipe that is 1" diameter GI pipe/tubing.

After positioning the tubing on top of the larger pipe, tacks were applied on both sides to secure its attachment on the main base pipe frame.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

And after doing all the preparation and positioning of the small tubes/pipes onto the main base pipe frame, I started applying continuous weld spots on the metal joint specially the 1" PIPE attachment. Then grinded carefully the weld on all sides to come up with a shiny welded joints. Sorry, I was not able to take pics of the process in applying spot weld, slipped my mind.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

If you will notice on the pics posted above, I have repositioned the other 1" GI pipe to the side so not to make it difficult to do grinding of the welds applied.
