Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Hey bro Bochekokiks, always try to remember the duty of a 200 amp DC Inverter arc welder, within the span of 10 minutes, you can weld straight for 5 to 6 minutes after which you rest the weld machine for 4 minutes or so para hindi mag overheat at masira ang machine specially yata yung capacitor.

Also when welding do not suddenly touch the ampere dial to increase amperage, turn off muna ang machine then adjust your ampere settings, OK brad !!!!!!!

Yes sir rosy. All pointers are well observed.
That was the 1st and hopefully the last time that I will encounter that OC error with the yamato. Pang light duty works lang ang yamato.
Pag ratratan at madalian, my weapon of choice will still be the jurassic elemax, yun nga lang sigurado gising lahat kapitbahay dahil sa ingay. 🙁

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

@ Bochekokik,

Brad, do correct me if I am wrong but looking at your " jurassic Elemax " from the other thread you posted, that is not an ordinary weld machine, what you have there is an industrial grade welder, sort of a welding generator, kaya pala sinasabi mo na pag ginagamit mo eh sobrang ingay, pati mga neighbors magigising. LOL, 😀

May I suggest that you get yourself a YAMATO AC 300 amps weld machine, it can be the old yellow body type or the newer ones with stainless body casings, mas compact at madaling gamitin compared to your ELEMAX, these YAMATO AC welders will be cheaper than the DC we got from Miss Mimi. Actually I tested one unit during the group buy, the compact with stainless body, ok naman syang gamitin, plug in din lang sa ordinary outlet, I think !!! Maybe you can give Mimi a call and inquire about their units plus baka maka kuha ka pa ng discount for your second purchase.

HAHAHAHA, Just suggesting a possible solution against his, shall we say " jurassic ELEMAX " a BEHEMOTH WELDER that is so loud and noisy. Looks like a gasoline or diesel fed welding generator, kaya maingay !!!!!!

Nothing more, nothing less. hehehehe hihihihihihi hehehehe hihihihihihi.

Tama po kayo sir rosy, it is a welding generator, Elemax 190A, powered by a 13hp honda gasoline engine. As the mechanic told me, original pa mga selyo ng genset at ng engine, hindi pa nagagalaw. Nilagyan ko na ng muffler, pero maingay pa rin 🙁
I got this elemax at a dirt cheap price several years ago, pinabayaan na kasi nung anak ng may ari, ginawang talian ng aso at nakababad sa ulan araw. Mutik na ngang ipa scrap ng por kilo.
Kaunting linis, kaunting tiyaga, at umandar naman. Kala ko nga papalitan na yung engine but it is still using the orig engine, oil lang napalitan.
Pag sa bahay na mga light works lang naman, I am already contented with the yamato dc welder. I also dont think I can part with this elemax in the near future, minsan kasi may kailangan repair na steel stand in the middle of nowhere far from any AC outlet, this is where this gasoline welder genset becomes very useful. Bubuyog lang naman ang magrereklamo sa ingay, walang kapitbahay na mabubulabog hehehe.
Pero naintriga ako dun sa sinabi mo na yamato ACwelder nila Ms Mimi...... matingnan nga. :thanks:

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Just to share my first project with Yamato DC inverter.

this is additional to my old fence, have to put additonal bars to prevent cats and small dogs entering and leave their poo in my soil.

additional pics.

Finish, next is grinding and painting.

Great project bro Aladdin, hehehehe, the advantage of a portable welders, just perfect !!!

BUT, BUT, BUT, BUT !!! what ever happen to your protection, like wearing safety work pants and shoes instead of shorts and slippers and probably a welding sleeves.

Nothing personal here bro but as a metalworker and indulging in welding, we try to instill safety on everyone, I think there's nothing wrong with that.

yap I know about the safety, but need to act fast because rain is unpredictable and I only have limited time, sure next time I'll wear the protections especially my welding safety jacket will arrive soon. Btw, my ADH is the cheapest from Toolec which I think is perfect for a newbie like me.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

WOW !!, bro kabasor (Jovie), Thanks so much again man for sharing this knowledge on this thread, thanks too for taking the time to share your " Beginners" video, I know those who really are and will be serious about this skill will learn a lot from the information we are sharing here. This thread is actually for everyone wanting to learn the process of stick welding.

I salute you for continuously contributing and would love to see more from you so we can really spread some knowledge here, HEHEHEHE, dumadami na mga weldero (metal boys) dito sa PHM.

You are lucky to have the time to attend the TESDA welding courses, unlike most of us here na self study ( self taught) lang, hehehe, but we get by and learn from research sa internet.

Thanks a lot man !!:thanks: 😉 :captain:

Hey bro did you get my PM, I'm enjoying the two articles you sent me regarding pipe welding, hehehe, ang hahaba pala, but OKs lang, its full of right informations, thanks again !!!

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Hello Welders. My total weld time is just under 12 hours. More than half is mostly practice welds. The DC is really forgiving for beginners. I must have consumed around 2 kgs of 6013 already hahaha. I have practiced on old window frames (t-Bars and angle bars). These would be later transformed into my work bench haha.

I have done some minor welds but mostly on gate and window repairs. Boring na so I'm embarking on a bigger project now. I would be replacing the aquarium tank stand (2x75 gals) as I noticed rust all over the joints and medyo bukaka na ang frame due to the weight. In the course of discussing with wifey and due to limited skills, I limited the project to replacing the corner posts. I already acquiried angle bars (2x2x6mm) for this. Surprise, surprise. When I moved one of the tanks, I noticed leaks which I temporarily patched. This would be dealt with soon enough. I need a new tank now and would probably delegate this old one to standby or filtration soon. Going back to topic. I could no longer touch the old stand and would have to create a new one. Since square tubes are expensive (and with zero weld time on tubulars), I just added angle bars. Question now is how should I design the joints ? It is quite easy with the top horizontal frame. However, this would be 2 tanks. I am in a dilemna how to proceed with the lower horizontal brace/frame. The original plan was to prepare 2 sets in rectangular shapes with angle bars cut in 45 degrees and welded. Thiese would be braced evenly with angle bars too. These are the horizontal bars. Now, for the vertical part, I could just weld under the top frame then probably the bottom of the bar on top of the bottom frame. I would look for short tubulars as legs, which are similarly welded under the lower horizontal frame. Sorry I have no pic. I'll try to Sketch this weekend. Hirap din ako intindihin. The stand is about 30 inches high, 18 inches deep and 48 inches long.

Any inputs are welcome. Thanks in advance. Sorry if I might have posted wrongly in this thread.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

No problem on your posting bro Jolens, and don't be affected on how many kilos of welding rod you have consumed, It will be more I tell you if you are really serious in learning this skill.

Tell you this bro, in my thread Stick welding on thin sheet metal, I have spent, just can't remember exactly how many kgs of welding electrodes I have spent, I think its 10 or 12 or more kgs. just to be able to learn and find out how it is to weld on thin sheet metal using an AC weld machine of 300 amps. What I did in that thread also gave me the necessary self confidence on how to apply weld beads continuously, so pag dating ko sa thicker metal, chicken feed na weld applications.

Now regarding your project, can you just make a clear drawing or rendition on paper, take a picture of it and post it, probably we can start giving you suggestions based on your drawings and descriptions. Medyo hindi ko magets description or narration of what you want to do with your fish tank table base.

OKIDOKIS BA BRO ??? :p

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

OK friends, I have here another form of exercises you can do to hone your welding applications specially for those guys who purchased some E7024 welding electrodes or the so called as the " drag rods ". Since most metal projects here done were mostly joining small angle bars or some tubulars for shelvings or bracket supports, I deemed it would be better to stick to spot or tack exercises and short dragging of the welding electrodes, no weaving of welds of whatsoever.

If you have performed the previous exercises I have posted before, I urge you again to do these exercises so that you learn to control your hand/wrist movement, your pulse while applying your welds or bead puddles. Do try this as often as you can if time permits your schedule, not just when you only have a project in mind to make. Also try to learn to control your hand movement when using a new and long electrode, I know its quite hard 🙁 but you really have to learn applying welds that way at first and as the electrode gets shorter it becomes easier to control. :chop:

I have here a simple illustration on how you will do your welding exercise, i made an actual application of this exactly the same size, on two 4" X 6" X 3/16" flat bars. I used two different welding electrodes, the E6013s and the E7024 with the different amperage settings to see the difference and know the proper settings for each electrode. I hope you can follow !!!

These exercises will be a combination of tack or spot welds and then just dragging the welding electrode, an inch or so in length, this is called stitch welding application. Since I am a right handed person, I start my short weld applications on the left and simply drag the welding rod to the right and performing it in a continuous manner.
